Three days after winning the World Cup he resigns from the head coaching position for the Italian National Team? His successor is expected to be Roberto Donadoni, former midfielder for AC Milan, who recently stepped down from coaching Livorno in Serie A for the past 2 years.Apparently the scandal in Italian soccer has some reason to do with his departure. Lippi is not under investigation concerning the soccer scandal, however,he was questioned by league officials as to the reasons why he chose certain players to represent the World Cup team.

Hopefully the new coach will change Italy's style so that it becomes more offensive instead of stonewalling all the time.

Much more important to please you with their style than to win the World Cup.

Sure did this year bud!!! Champions 2006 Italia!!!!
At least I'm not a bandwagon fan. Brazil plays some beautiful soccer even if they didn't click this year. England plays some exciting soccer with long passes, some of it carried over from the premiership.

Italy? Always boring to watch.

Ya sure!!! I guess you didn't watch the semis with Germany. Called a classic by some of the commentators. Ah beautiful soccer. Where did Brazil finish this year. And England. Buddy please!!! I love England; but they sucked this year thanks to there coach and his tinkering. Quoted by the Brazilian coach in this years WC. " No one remebers how pretty one plays. They only remeber the champions." Take his advice and get used to it for the next 4 years before you blow something before then!!!
hello, what is this all about? You expect one team to win the cup every single year? You think Italy will win the next 3 cups?

Not if you can't score goals and we all know how well they do on Penalty kicks. 1 out of 5 victories.
They didn't seem to have too much problem on PK's against France in the championship game? They beat Ghana 2-0,Czech Republic 2-0,Ukraine3-0,Germany 2-0 and 5 PK goals on Sunday's final. Didn't seem like they had any problem scoring any goals? Also, yes it has been 24 years since they last won the cup,so what? When Brazil won the cup in '94 it had been 24 years since they last were champions. This happens. Remember, only 7 teams have ever won the WC.

Meister, its called a lucky break. All championship teams have their lucky breaks and their unlucky breaks in all different types of sports.

If that Italian guy didn't dive he probably would have scored.

The point was Lippi tried to change the old habits of the Italian team when it came to offensive strategy (no pun intended). Which is articulated in the scores you mention above.

But if Donadoni is at the helm, chances are we will be back to the score 1 goal and build a wall type game.

24 years was reference to the fact that it not until they changes their style of play did they have some success.

Marcello Lippi is the Joe Gibbs of football; both are very low key and very meticulous in their planning and strategy. After Maldini's hamstring (2002) and Totti's saliva (2004) the National program was in disarray. Lippi made the Azzurri strong again and he can now deservedly ride off into the sunset puffing his cigarillo.

(Que The Good, The Bad and The Ugly theme)

Roberto Donadoni is cut from the same cloth as Jurgen Klinsmann; both ended their playing careers promoting football/soccer in the USA. At Livorno, his team played attractive attacking football and he'll continuee what Lippi has started. He'll have to deal with a national hangover, but he'll still direct la squadra Azzurri to Euro2008. An intermediiary to Fabio Capello he surely is not.

It's sad to see Jurgen Klinsmann leave Germany; his team played very attractive football and they'll be tough to beat at Euro2008. I would love to see Holger Osieck get a chance to coach the national team - look at what he did with Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
