Spartans are finally healthy for the first time all year. Hello Detroit and home court advantage.
They were starting to look good until they played Ohio State. They played like crap but I have a feeling they will bounce back very nicely.

They should have an easy time (a tune-up) against Robert Morris but they shouldn't take either Boston College or USC lightly. Those are two schools that you don't know what to expect from.

The Spartans definitely have a chance to go far. There is no doubt about that.

Here are a couple of upset games I like for the first round.

Number 11 VCU deafeating Number 6 UCLA
Number 10 USC defeating Number 7 BC

I also like Siena defeating Ohio State and making the Sweet 16.

How did Arizona get in over St. Mary's? (shaking head)

I like those games as well. They are upset worthy.

I don't like Siena making the Sweet 16 though. They are quite good but I don't think they're that good. Ohio State looks pretty strong and peaking at the right time.

St. Mary's missed Patrick Mills big time and that couldn't put them over the hump. San Diego State or Creighton should have made it over Arizona though.

I was surprised that St. Mary's didn't get in. They gave them no benefit of the doubt for the Mills injury, when they have the latitidue to do so... it appears they purely looked at there wins and victories... and if that was the case then yes they did not deserve to be in the tournament, It also would have helped if they had been blown out by 30 by Gonzaga right before the tournament... for a team that has only played 2 good teams all year, they have to get viewed subjectively, and getting destroyed on a neutral court isn't going to help your resume.

Personally, I think Wisconsin had no right in this tournament, wow they beat 4 decent Big Ten teams with skewed RPI's... out of 14 games, big deal. Arizona deserved to get in ahead of them. All of Maryland, Wisconsin and Arizona played respectil out of conference slates, so its fair enough that they got in, although I would have preferred they gave the benefit of the doubt to San Diego St and St. Mary's.

The funny thing is that the peope that are bashing Arizona for there inclusion over a mid-major, are even more pissed because of a "favourable" matchup. Seems hypocrtical to me, because Utah is not in a big conference, therefore there not better then say FSU. Utah is better then an offensively inept team like Illinois.

At least teams like Providence and Penn St who were basically .500 in power conferences were excluded because of there bad out of conference schedule.

The most vulnerable #1 is UConn IMO. Its a shame that they lost Jerome Dyson because he was the creator that completed there offence. Not sure if Walker can step up his game another level.

They have no one that can really create shots right now, lack a go-to post presence (Thabeet is more of a garbage scorer), and no real good three point shooter. And yet they are still a hell of a team.... they were my facourite until they lost Dyson.

As a Syracise fan I am thrilled with the draw of UNC as the #1 seed, if they do ultimately match up. UNC won't put in the effort to stop there bread and butter, the fast break of rebounds and steals, nor the high screen roll. Pshyco T really puts little effective energy into his defence. Althogh Hansbrough should do well in the middle of the 2-3. Of course SU would have to get though Oklahoma first... Oklahoma was struggling about five games before they started to lose... alot of close games against mediocore talent. They only got the #2 seed out of respect for Griffin's injury... Syracuse is a better team then them right now.

Agreed. I think that many people were surprised that St. Mary's didn't get in. Creighton didn't make it either and they were deserving as well.

Illinois is offensively inept but they can certainly play defence and can hold their own with just about anyone in the country. It's not pretty basketball but is has been effective most of the time. I wouldn't necessarily say that Utah is better than Illinois. Two different styles to compare.

I think Florida State is going to beat Wisconsin anyways. Toney Douglas has been (arguably) the best player in the ACC this year and he should play well if he wants raise his stock in the draft because as of right now, it does not look like it's going to happen. He is one heck of a player.

You are dead on maruice93. Dyson was a huge blow for them and they have some very tough opposition in their bracket. I wouldn't be surprised if they are knocked out early.

Gotta love the Orange lately and they can beat Oklahoma if they can contain Blake Griffin. I do love their offensive style but their defense was horrible earlier this season. It seems to be getting much better lately which makes things much more interesting.

The Madness is about to start.

I am going out on a limb on some of these so here are today's picks:

LSU
Memphis
BYU
Purdue
North Carolina
USC/Maryland-Too close to call.
UConn
Washington (tough one), Mississippi State will keep it close
Clemson
Minnesota (upset), Texas has been inconsistent but if they play to their potential, they will win.
Villanova
Gonzaga
Duke
Oklahoma
VCU (upset) UCLA is better and if Darren Collison is playing, go with UCLA.
Western Kentucky (upset)
Syracuse

You might want to consider point spread instead. ;)

I'm heading to the store shortly as well.

If you need more info, let me know. I'll try my best.

If interested, you can watch all the games here:

I am not as big a fan as I used to be, so I know very little about the teams. Other than what I hear from experts, analysts, read on ESPN, USA Today, etc. Occasionally I will lay a few dollars on some games to help get me more interested. Sometimes I just go with the 'Diane Chambers' (Cheers) system of picking winners. Strongest colours, toughest state birds or flowers, etc. :p

I told a friend of mine that when we were younger, we experienced a game winning home run, a playoff goal in overtime, game winning touchdown and a buzzer beater. It does not have the same panache as when we were children but to see these kids play and their athletic abilities while giving it there all is fantastic.

Not that excited this year either. No standout players, and the leading scorer this year (Stephen Curry) is doing his thing at the NIT.

Did that. Bought two tickets, one is already in the garbage can. If Butler had made just one more bucket down the stretch, I would be SOL on that ticket too. The freaking Madness. LOL

Sure didn't seem that vulnerable in game #1. One of the largest blowouts I remember (with UNC close behind).

You have to give East Tennessee State a lot of credit. Pitt could not handle their full court pressure. Thank goodness Pitt won. :)
