Should Carney have apologized for Ford's video? I'm on the fence. I know the righty trolls here are performatively upset about this, and I at first thought Trump was lying. But, the reality here is Trump is a thin-skinned whinny bitch. He got butt hurt for being called out on his terrible economic policies. He probably knows he's going to lose at the Supreme Court (well, who knows with those conservative quislings), so he's going to cry that it was outside interference...Did Canada really have anything to apologize for? Not really.
But, all that being said, flattery works wonders on Trump. Canada still needs the US market, and removing these idiotic tariffs is important to the Canadian economy. Pretending otherwise is foolish. I would wager that PP would do the exact same thing if he was PM. Until we can get other trade deals with Europe and Asian, and start seeing a boom in exports, we need a trade deal. It is stupid to pretend otherwise. Now, I don't trust that Trump will accept the deal for a long time. Let's face it, he'll likely find a new grievence in the coming weeks/months/years and threaten to tear the whole thing up. He is not a reliable partner, nor is the US anymore.
Now, some of y'all are bitching about the retaliatory tariffs being taken down. There was a reason: They were against the USMCA deal. Trump did that mostly with Canadian good, those not covered by the deal are getting dinged with tariffs. There is no rhyme or reason to them, because they include things like aluminum, which the US only makes about 14% of their requirements domestically.
The bottomline here is that Carney needs to kiss a little ass to keep the economy going. PP would do the same. He might bluster about this right now, but a trade deal is more important now. And, I still think Canada is playing Elbows Up. Go to your grocery store, and you'll see American produce not selling. People are not going to the US anymore. The impact of Canadian boycotts is hurting their economy, just as much as the stupid tariffs...
