I'm a McAfee subscriber so this isn't about how crappy McAfee is and how much better X brand is.

Staples has a sale on right now where you can get McAfee Internet Security 2010 for $19.99. That's $50 off the resale price (!!!).

Internet Security is a step up from their base Anti-Virus product, which is what I normally buy and costs between $29.99 and $39.99 depending on the time of year you buy and whether there's a sale on or not.

My McAfee Anti-Virus subscription doesn't expire until next Feb/Mar.

Can I purchase Internet Security now and not install it until next Feb/Mar, and still get one year of use out of it? Or do I have to install within X amount of days from purchase?

The box doesn't say and the website doesn't either.

Just spoke to McAfee via internet chat and they confirmed I can continue to use my current subscription until it expires next year, then install the new software and it will last a full 365 days from that point on (i.e., you don't have to install within a certain period of time from purchase).

So it's a really good deal for anyone who wants to use McAfee. You're getting a step up in security protection for $10-20 cheaper than the basic McAfee protection software.

McAfee Internet Security 2010 sounds a lot like Norton 360 and is probably just as bloated. I just can't get excited over any bloated AV no matter how go the deal is. Norton is a pain to remove and Norton System Works was even worse to uninstall. Imagine the same applies to McAfee Internet Security 2010 which most likely is quite a resource hog.

Understand your frustrations wood. However, I have been a McAfee user for many years and find it is much easier to install/remove and not the memory hog that norton is. In this day and age, you need good internet protection as no matter how careful you are, you always get that odd urge to really "surf" the web and go where no sane internet user would go.

I've used both and didn't like either, Viruses still got through and they messed up my operating system. I've been using Kapsersky for the last 2 yrs and not one problem so far. I think it's on sale for 19.99 as well, just another option.

Agreed.
This is one of the main reasons I went to Linux!
Security is better and you can surf anywhere with impunity, not having to worry about AV.

McAfee is ok if you want your machine to slow way down and take forever to boot. Go with Kaspersky like Aries recommended. I play games with it on with no slow down.

I dunno 'bout all the haters but I've been using McAfee for years without any significant problems.

I tried a free AV called "Avast" .. It loaded up and then went through my system at the required reboot.. ( took two hours ) I think ( I'm not sure ) that it boots in DOS and checks every file in the computer before starting windows.. It found stuff that the following missed...

Rogers Online protection..

Malwarebytes....

AVG....

adaware ( yeah, I know.. POS )

Try it! Google it and see what you think..
