Media Player DVD Decoder?

I recently bought a new laptop. Media Player 10 apparently doesn't have a DVD decoder as part of it. Help leads me to a Microsoft website and then to a number of pay-to-download decoder bundles.

Just as a matter of prinicple, I wonder if there are any shareware downloads that work well. I figure Gates got enough of my money when I bought the 'puter.

I've come across a couple of free demos, but they expire in 30days...

I like Cyberlink Power DVD for playing DVDs
It comes with most DVD drives for computers, check to see if its been included in the software and just not installed.

Did the notebook not come with software like PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc. Usually it is part of the bundled software with the notebook.
