I only know him from his old Sun columns and the odd TV appearence. I hated most of his views, though he diod occasionaly ask important or provocative questions and challenged prevailing assumptions in the mainstream media.

Looks like he just got stuck playing to his core audience and let his arrogance run wild.

Wrong. It's not the callers, it's the listeners, and there's a huge difference between who calls and who listens.

Talk radio, at its essence, is about public mockery. After all, anyone with enough going on their lives doesn't take the time to call, hold on the line, and talk to a radio personality. Most of the people who call these shows fall into one or more categories: 1) moron, 2) shut-in, 3) social activist, 4) talk show host wannabe, or 5) prank caller. These shows simply allow you to listen to all the dumb, inarticulate points of view that some people have and be entertained by them!

It's absurd that a broadcaster would cancel a show because the host mocked a caller. That's what all these shows are about! I think it's more likely that the station simply wanted to make a change to try to move their ratings. Have you heard the half-wit ultra-sensitive woman who's been filling in his time slot? I listen to her because she's so fragile it's funny. However, I won't be calling in! One night her topic was "aren't Canadian's being unfair to Conrad Black by refusing to grant him citizenship?" Yeesh! If you didn't laugh at that, you'd have to yank your car into oncoming traffic!

If this were the case Bobcat would have been long gone.

He was the smartest guy on the air in Toronto, best educated, best read, a published author and a professional level debater.

Agreed, his religious views aside. I wonder if he got himself canned for some reason?
His take on MPs was pretty good. "Men pay to get mastubated by women."
The sort of no glamour answer!

Was this on radio or TV? How did the subject arise?

The only time I recall hearing him talk on a related subject was a few weeks ago when there was a small story in the media that Hedy Fry had suggested allowing "three-person brothels", which Coren naturally thought was a bad idea. I believe he made a brief acknowledgement of the existence of escorts, although he may not have used the word, and implied (incorrectly, of course) that the vast majority of the women who work in the sex trade are homeless drug addicted street walkers. I definitely don`t recall hearing him say anything about MPs.

Maybe someone told him Blue Lagoon was a CFRB advertiser?

Awhile ago He got himself canned so he could do his tv show. The radio schedule would not allow time for the tv show so he managed to get hilm self canned.

Why they took him back I couldn't understand.

by the way what happened to John Oakley?

Oakley is totally out of place on 640. 90% of the listeners don't understand what the fuck a "baileywick" is. :D

Coren was really opinionated like many radio and tv personalities. I sometimes agreed with him and other times not but I always found him interesting.

I believe that he is entitled to his opinions. Firing him for his beliefs is wrong. He is another sacrificed on the altar of political correctness. It seems that if you don’t tow the liberal/secular/pc line then you have to be silenced or marginalized.

I’m not particularly religious but I support ALL people to practice their religion. What’s with all the Christian bashing lately?

He still writes for the Sun. I’ll continue to read his columns there

I heard the MP thing at least a couple of years ago. Don't think MPs were the topic. It was just an aside to something else, prostitution in general probably. I don't mean to imply any acts of prostitution happen at an MP BTW.

It's one thing to practice your religion. It's quite another to use your platform on CFRB to promote it.

As for bashing, ask Coren. He knows plenty about bashing gays, fat people, anyone who holds different moral views than his own, etc., etc., etc.

Christianity is a necessary evil.

This thread is amazing. I agreed with every single thought. What a devil that guy is. I wonder why he was fired? Or quit.

He’ll be born again.
