Actually I find the pro cameras easier to use, all the functions are buttons not hidden in menus... but they are heavy and VERY expensive. I'm sure you could use your G lenses on the D5100.

Yeah...I have to balance whether or not I understand the f***king menus along with carrying the thing for hours at a time along with whether I fight for it if I am being mugged. I'd much rather get something that I understand, is light and smallish and is not a big loss if it goes.

The T4i is looking better and better, especially the 18-135mm kit.

I'd line up but not for an iPhone!
Oh do tell, what would you line up for... let's use the "line up" standard of having to camp out on 5th ave. for a night....

I lined up overnight for the iPad 2 launch at the Eaton Centre and it was brutal!

I've also lined up for Apple Store openings.

Ok, just making a note to myself that the next time I am in Hong Kong or I may just visit Shanghai or Beijing this year to search for the newest Xiaomi phone...the MI-2.

Spec wise from what I hear is that it's as good as the Nexus 4 but cheaper.

The Nokia C has bit the dust! *sigh* Awesome phone for texting but it started mixing up messages from different contacts.

Wanted a Xiaomi but got a good price on a Samsung Note. This thing is fast! Battery life is not so hot. Hope that the sound quality is as good as the Galaxy S.

Recently got myself a Synology NAS; porn collection is out of control. Explicite and X-Art has been keeping me busy. ;) Looked over some old porn and those files were tiny! Nothing like the multi-gig clips the sites now have.

Synology NAS was dead easy to set up.

Just sold my note and got an HTC One, best thing I did for battery life on the Note other than ditching touchjizz was replace the battery after about 8 months, and not run Google now.

I think it's the Wi-Fi that's chewing up the Note's battery but will also look into replacing it soon. It's a used model so I don't expect much battery life for the moment. Still, it does go fast. I know someone else with an Galaxy S III and she has to recharge her battery three times a day!

Ok, the Note is turning out to be pretty good but load in more apps and it slows down. Battery life has turned out to be better than initial experience. Maybe the battery had been sitting around too long in the shop and needed to be recharged a few cycles?

On another front, just got my hands on a Nexus 7 16 gig. It's a huge step up from another Android tablet from a couple of years back which was a PITA. Asus had announced a tablet in early 2012 which I really wanted and which had turned into the Nexus 7. This thing is clean in the sense that the OS is not mucked up and covered over. Makes it simpler to use. Nice feel to it, very light and I can see it replacing the iPad in some scenarios for me.

Google's Play Store is still a mess and I suspect that the apps are just not up to par with iOS ones. And cases? Forget it, not in Canadian stores.

So, let's see...running a Note I, Galaxy S I, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and now Nexus 7 (2013). The Galaxy S I will probably be next to go but the sound quality is excellent.

A business contact in Singapore just emailed me that Xiaomi is going to be entering that market with their Redmi smartphone. Dirt cheap price of SGD169!

Am wondering if I can replace the Galaxy S1 and the iPhone 4S with it since it has dual-sim capability. Hrmmmm........

On the DSLR front you should consider which lens camp you want to be in (Nikon or Cannon)
When photography first went digital Canon had a clear lead over Nikon in resolution & noise of the digital sensors. Now I think they are both excellent choices. I have a friend who just bought a med- end Nikon DSLR and the photos are amazing.

im469, out of those 2 companies. Would you recommend Canon or Nikon? I don't have lenses for either. Are megapixels going to be a big factor? Or are they basically the same? I'm talking about the entry level models from both companies.

thanks,

Might as well ask me if you prefer a Ferrari or Porsche. I've been out of photography too long to tell you - I don't follow the reports anymore. Professionals use them both. I suggest you try them out and find out which one fits your grip, easy to operate in both portrait and landscape configurations. If you are looking at lenses look at the likely cost to add accessories later.

That biz contact in SG came through and I now have in my hands a Xiaomi Redmi! Been wanting a Xiaomi for years!

The phone is pretty anemic in terms of horsepower and the battery life is nothing to rave about but it has a lot going for it still...first, of course, is the dirt cheap price, nice bright colorful screen, larger screen than my iPhone 4, dual sim capability, easy expandability and a clean interface. Unboxing it and you are reminded of how much they have copied Apple's packaging.

Am not in the Xiaomi ecosystem but easy enough to get this on to my Google Play account.

So, now running Samsung Note 1, Samsung Galaxy S1, Nexus 7 2013, Xiaomi Redmi, iPad 2, iPad mini, and iPhone 4. Am sure that I am forgetting a couple more...
