I hope Game 3 proved a point to all the AL Fans who think the increased strategy NL ball contains is related to a pitcher sac bunting.
Having a pitcher hit is much more difficult to manage around and Farrell struggled a bit with it in game 3.
- Do you keep your pitcher in a bit longer because he is coming up to a bat and you do not want to waste a pitcher.
- Or if you bring in that pitcher earlier, do you do a double switch so you can keep him in longer, but take out a better bat out of the lineup..
- If your pitcher is doing well, do you take him out for a pinch hitter.
- Can you afford to waste as many pitchers with the L/L thing?
Managing in the NL is completely different, and its not just a matter of the pitcher bunting. I have run into a handful of Jays fan (as a former hardcore Expos fans) who don't even understand the concept of a double switch.
