Mobile browser support?

I like to access Terb on my Blackberry. It looks great on Opera Mini 4.1, but completely useless on the native Blackberry browser.

2 questions:

1) Does anyone know how to adjust the settings on the BB browser so that it applies minimal formatting to what is a primarily text site?

2) Is there a 'mobile' version of Terb? I imagine not - there's no mobile version ov vBulletin technology yet, though these guys are talking about it in their forums. http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=234550

IF there were an automatic mobile broswer detection and redirect to a more mobile-optimized Terb, that would rock. I would be willing to pay a little to get the development done, and I bet the advertisers (those that use BB, iPhone, etc, would find it easier to watch PMs etc.

Like I said, it looks good on Opera Mini - but the BB browser sucks balls.

Actually, I have no problem viewing TERB from my iPhone, or even logging
in. However, the VBulletin link you posted has some interesting ideas. I will ask our Tech people to look into it.

I got Opera mini working, so I can use it more easily now. I found the Blackberry browser itself to be the real problem, as it made a lot of text far bigger than it needs to be.

Thanks for looking into it, though. I don't think mobile browsing is going away any time soon...

EDIT: HA! This was my 500th post!! I was going to save it up for something special. Well, thanks again, Fred.

It would be great if we could browse TERB on our Blackberries without opting for browsers other than BB's own browsers. I hope that you will be able to work it out. I am certain that with that tweak, TERB and its advertisers will get more hits.
I can log in through my BB browser, but since TERB is not tweaked for BB, it is quite cumbersome.

Cheers.

Hi Hangman,
I tried Opera Mini 4.1 on my BlackBerry. It seems to work. I may need to practice and tweak. It is definitely better than my rogers and BB browsers.
Thanks for the advice. Cheers.

I think based on the discussion at the VBulletin forum, the developers at
VB will come up with a VBulletin version that supports mobile browsers soon.
Usually they respond to suggestions very fast.
So then it will just be a matter of upgrading the software. In the meantime
of course I will ask our Tech people to look at our options such as:
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=174375&highlight=mobile+browser+support

And yes, you are quite correct in pointing out that our advertisers would benefit also.

Thanks Fred,
In the meantime as advised I have downloaded Opera Mini 4.1 on my BlackBerry. Seems to work, but like any new system it needs practice.
Good Luck and thanks for the TERB. Regards. Salik

in my pants, where there's a party
Funny you should bring this up, Salik, for I was dealing with the same problem this weekend. I was heading for vacation with my lover, her and I were discussing browsing on our BB's. We both have Curves, mine's Rogers on OS 4.2, her's is Telus on OS 4.3.

Her device was showing some sites so much better, because of the 4.3 software. Mobile browsers have been generally crap, until recently, until the Iphone came along. They merely display stripped down versions of most websites, which is why some places offer mobile versions of their pages on a different URL. The Iphone, despite my critique of it as a PDA, is definitely a fantastic browsing device and is raising the bar for others to follow. The only exception is Nokia's PDA (E61/62) who's Symbian browser displays a true webpage.

So I'll have to try out Opera mini, because it intrigues me. But aside from doing 3rd party browsers, you and I will have to wait till RIM re-releases the 4.3 software (they pulled it and are going to be releasing 4.5 soon, with some improvements)

Opera Mini is great.

The Nokia N-Series phones use the same browser core as the iPhone ("WebKit") but add Flash support. They lack the iPhone's magnificent screen (and the touch interface), but the Nokia N-Series browsers are quite usable, especially if you want Flash support.
