More computer help

Any one have any ideas to try turned on my computer wanting to listen to tunes and keep getting message..

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

I checked and can't seem to find if its inuse by another program..is there a way to delete my sound device and reinstall another?..my OS is windows xp

Any ideas would be appreciated

Right click My Computer -> Properties

Hardware Tab -> Device Manager

Delete your Sound device, Reboot

On startup, Windows should locate the device and install the drivers for you.

Thanks Goober...but can't seem to figure this, out under the tab for sound device this is what is listed in order

Audio codecs
Audio codecs
Creative Audio PCI(ES1371,ES1373)(WDM)
Game Port for Creative
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
USB Audio Device
Video Codecs

The only thing it allows me to delete or uninstall is the creative audioPCI(ES1371,ES1373)(WDM)..then asks me to reboot..then it finds it again, but still no sound..more like a high pitch static repeat, with or without playing a CD...

Any clue on this one?
