I think that Miller's latest gambit of proposing "legislation" to ban legal gun clubs from Toronto is misguided and insane!
Gang bangers are as about as likely to belong to a gun club as they are to legally register their guns! This is not going to solve gun crimes in Toronto but it is going to discriminate against a group of law abiding citizens that treat guns with respect and consider target shooting a legitimate sport...which as an olympic sport, it is. One of our Olympians in this sport trains in Toronto...I guess if Miller gets his way, she will be looking elsewhere for a training home.
This is a knee jerk reaction that will undoubtedly appease some of the NDP'rs that seem to form his main constituency.
Let's hope we have some real opposition to Miller in the next election. We need a choice.

Agree 100%. I think Miller went too far this time. He has further polarized the city with this idiotic proposal. The conservatives were already against him and the socialists continue to be for him but this idea will only serve to turn more small "L' liberals against him. In short, it is a vote loser.

The guy that shot and killed a bystander outside the Brassrail was carrying a legal handgun. ;)

God I hope you're right..... the sooner this fucktarded slave to PC is ousted from any placement of power the better...

Hopefully he fucks it up so badly that people will vote for the exact Opposite next time: Common sense & belief in true responsibility for ones actions....

Maybe but does he represent most legal gun owners? I would think not.

Seems to me 99% of shootings involve illegal guns. Now I am all for less guns, mostly for gun happy USA but Canada has strict laws for gun already.

This is like that "stunt driving" law, its unneeded and will be abused by the police, IMO.

Fuck you don't in live in Canada. Why don't you STFU about the racing law or start another thread about topic that has been discussed to death.

True....but my understanding is that a very small fraction of the guns involved in crime are being weilded by their legal owners...and probably a smaller percentage of these are members of the hobby target shooting clubs.

Gun crime is not good...and efforts need to be made to support the police and community leaders in their efforts to address the social conditions that seem to spawn gun related violence. Going after a handful of handgun clubs is just not a very useful contribution in addressing this problem.

In a living hell
Her name escapes me; but the former Toronto mayor who ran against Mel in the first MegaCity election had a 'brilliant' idea too. She was going to sick the bylaw enforcement officers on the crack house operators; cite them for things like illegal reinforced steel doors etc. That would have had them shaking in their boots.
For the large part, our city is being run by a bunch of kooks and ninnys.

That's her.
She's the one who cancelled a Bare Naked Ladies Concert in Nathan Phillips Square because she thought the name was not politically correct...and would send the wrong image for the city.
We are truly "blessed" to have such brilliant minds aspiring to positions of leadership :D

Miller isn't talking about banning handguns or taking legal guns away from anyone. He just wants to ban shooting ranges in the city of Toronto. No guns will be removed from homes in this city as a result of his ban. I don't own a hand gun and don't really care too much if they are banned but this is nothing but a cheap photo op that isn't going to make you or I any safer.

That is just one reason why I don't think he is a good mayor. He really isn't about doing practical things. He's a champagne socialist who loves his pic in the news and the sound of his own voice.

You sure, I seen in the papers he wants even ammunition shops shut down in Toronto. If his law isn't for the outright removal of guns from Toronto res., it be added on at a later date.

Theres other areas in Toronto that need help, the subway stations, roads, more police officers-and not targeting B.S. stuff like jaywalking which I see they are doing again.

Get some more youth programs in the city. Open all the public swimming pools. Have fun stuff young people can do so they stay off drugs and not want a gun to protect their drug deals.

Just going after the adults who just shoot for fun will not stop young people from joining gangs. More public youth programs might.

Cause its the same B.S. laws. Theres laws already to stop what happen at the Brass Rail. That gun might have been brought legally but it was illegally carried.

The "stunt driving law" was unneeded. There was laws already making unsafe driving illegal. Now theres hundreds of cars being taken off the roads every week.

Canada seems to be slipping in to a "police state". Expect for InCalls, I have more freedom where I live, thats sad.

Barbara Hall is now head of the Ontario Human Rights Commission. The commission that charged a bar owner with discrimination against a handicapped individual who needed to smoke his medical marijuana in the bar entrance area.

Millar wants all hand guns made illegal in canada, he is trying to appear to be doing something and unfortunatly for him he has kicked this dog once to often. The toronto range owners are talking to there counterparts in the states and I would guess the NRA will recomend that Toronto not be visited.

Miller is a city mayor. He has no power or authority to ban hand guns. He cannot ever "add it on at a later date". That power is reserved for the federal gov't, although he has been after them to do it. They are ignoring him for now. He does have the authority to license businesses and can ban those that allow shooting in ranges or who sell ammunition.

The point is that his current proposal is to ban shooting ranges and clubs. It is not a gun ban and will not force the removal of any guns from the province of Ontario. It therefore is unlikely to make you or I safer and is just grandstanding.

Oh, thanks..so all the people who want to go target shooting will have to go outside the city to other ranges. That means more guns in car trunks on the freeways. Don't see how that can help stop any shootings in Toronto. People will have to travel farther with their guns in order to target shoot. Seems dumb. Right now if somebody is 30 mins from their home with a gun in their trunk, the police can ask them why, when they could have gone to a range closer to their home.

In a way, it make the people buying guns legally and then reselling them illegally harder to catch.
