Moron Winter Drivers!!!!

It's that season where many villages are discovering they are missing an idiot or two.

I'm referring to those of you who don't put on winter tires, and then try and drive through the Rouge Park before it's plowed or salted.

What should have been a 5 minutes drive through the park this morning, turned into a 55 minute marathon, as approx. 20 drivers held up hundreds because they couldn't get up the last hill before Twyn Rivers enters Sheppard.

If you're one of those drivers, please hold your head under water for 20 minutes or so, or get yourself casterated, so you don't breed and further dilute the gene pool with your stupidity.

Thank you all for allowing this little rant.....I feel much better now....

I hear..200 accidents in GTA, 400 closed both ways..

And here I thought with this new tough speeding law everything would be "prefect" now

The insurance have to make snow tires mandatory.

Or else you pay a stiff penalty equal to the cost of 4 tires.

One "minor" storm and I'm already sick of this shit.

While I definitely agree with the theme of the thread, do we know for sure that all the cars were sans winter tires?

Some people get winter tires and they think they can drive as if it's a sunny day in July.

Some people with winter tires think that they are invincible.. I say numerous wrecks today with those oh-so-lovely black rims.

The real idiots are the ones who weave in and out and tailgate.

more often than not winter tires AREN'T found on vehicles in winter accidents according to the OPP.

BTW- my insurance provider gives me a $50 rebate for using approved winter tires. funny thing is, though... they are still sitting in my garage.

but some people can't even make enough money to support their family, raise their kids, not to mention spending an extra thousand dollars for winter tires!

This is so true. At best, you'll get 15% improvement, it's a relatively minor factor compared to driver inputs.

I'm willing to bet that there are alot more problems caused by people who have a false sense of security with their Winter Tires (or AWD systems ) thinking they can be as carefree and absentminded as usual.

Look at all the Winter Tires for sale on Craigslist that look like they've barely been run - sure a few of them are stolen, but most are probably from people who wrecked their cars last winter wearing those same tires...

Guilty here, been so busy I got caught without the Blizzaks on yet.
However...driver maturity, skill and patience has something to do with it too.
I had no trouble driving the 5.0L yesterday, but I promise I won't be caught offguard again.

I don't have snow tires on my car but I do have all season radials. I have never been stuck nor have I not been able to get up a hill, or get through where it hasn't been plowed. The problem is most of these assholes that get stuck don't know how to drive in the snow. They just have to get those tires spinning because in their pissbrain minds that's how they will get moving. All that does is melts the snow, turns it to ice, then there you sit.

Interesting...

....fascinating. Every winter this leaves me shaking my head.

How come they don't plow and salt the roads here? I lived the first 35 years of my life in Chicago, and never knew anyone who purchased winter tires. They existed...no one used them....because the roads were salted and plowed (and because you learned how to drive in the winter).

Mayors have lost their jobs in Chicago because they didn't keep the streets clear...(Bilandic)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Anthony_Bilandic

Shortly before the end of his administration, a blizzard struck Chicago and effectively closed down the city. The city's slow response to the debilitating storm was blamed on Bilandic's inaction and he lost the primary election to Jane Byrne, who went on to succeed Bilandic.

I blew off a tentative casual social commitment yesterday because I just didn't trust that I would be able to make the normally 90 minute drive without incident or having it stretch into 3 hours. This for 2 inches of snow...something that should be a total inconsequential event.

Seriously...that is one of two questions I have always had...why don't they plow and salt the roads (along with ...why expensive street cars and all the expensive maintenance and road closures and congestion, versus buses?)

I saw some sanders and salters out yesterday but not one single plow.

The time it takes for streets (especially side streets) to get plowed nowadays is brutal. Toronto used to be good (up to and including Mayor Mel) as far as plowing but not anymore. They'd be doing the main streets and 401 2 or 3 times during the snow. Now it seems like they wait for the snow to stop before they do anything. Even the side streets used to get plowed on the day of the snow. It seems it takes about 2-4 days to do my street. Budgets I suppose.

...I have been told this...and I just shake my head.

You know...in some other places...they mobilize the crews BEFORE the storm even starts...they sit in place on the roads...and when the first flake falls, they begin salting. That way, the snow doesn't even accumulate on the road. Two inches is NOTHING...should have no effect whatsoever.

Maybe I've just been spoiled...because seriously...this shit in Chicago would get the mayor literally pulled out of his office by a mob...and I am not exaggerating.

If you can afford insurance, you can afford winter tires.

Winter tires extend the life of the "summer" tires, so the cost of replacement is spread over a longer time frame.

Thats how it is here too, the salt trucks are on the road before the snow starts.

But then look at how the cars hold up better in Toronto-the ones that don't crash-they don't rust out after 10 years like over here.

All that salt eats the roads up too, thats why we have potholes everywhere come spring.

People need to drive diff. in the snow. You don't have to go very slow, just a little below the speed limit..speed limits are posted too low to start with..and no slamming on the brakes when the light turns yellow.

I bet it was like 10% of the drivers out there who caused all the problems. In Toronto, 10% is alot of cars.
