My old university roommate's daughter is staying in our coach house. We never let her take the TTC. She has her own car as well as a bike. When necessary she takes Uber or a cab.

Do you tell her stories and show her pictures of your university days?

In Fidel's Canada, this guy who's clearly a threat to society (murdered someone) will be out of jail in 10y.

Unfortunately yes. They'll just blame it on 'mental health'
Yeah, everything is all chalked up to "mental health" now. It drives me bananas to listen to such absolute nonsense.

Sure, it's "mental health". You know what else it is besides "mental health"? I will tell you. It's called "criminal behaviour". And you know who is there to stop criminal behaviour? The police. Of all the occupations out there, they are the one group that at least has the know how on how to handle criminals and to possibly stop it. Now I'm not naive and I now the cops can't be everywhere, but maybe they catch a whacko before he hurts someone. Cause god only knows, no-one else is going to catch the nuts. The City had a good idea of putting cops on transit and the social justice warrior types and the anti-cop marxists all screamed out in protest and somehow, the City of Toronto buckled and cancelled the program. Now you have another innocent victim of violent crime on the TTC. In the short time the cops were on the TTC, they arrested 314 nut bars and had 220 committed. Maybe they took a couple of maniacs off the street while they were in there.

It blows my mind that somehow the powers that be at the City of Toronto listened to the social justic warriors and cop haters. There's something fucking wrong in this town. And now some poor 16 year old kid has been murdered. Killed while minding his own business sitting on a bench by a maniac. I'm sure his parents will find solace in the fact that the killer suffered from mental illness. /s.

Does anyone know the history of the alleged murderer? Out on bail? Previous convictions?

Anyone who lives here and has regular contact with the street people, and that's pretty much all of us, knows that the majority of them do not belong on the streets, but in some kind of long term care. We used to have those things, usually big buildings that were called mental hospitals. Now days, we leave them to fend for themselves on the streets, victimized by drugs and filtered out by the society only to be seen when they commit the inevitable crimes. But, sure- let's bring in a half a million or a million new "Canadians " while the problem only gets worst.

i think it was cops working overtime and eventually the costs became too high...that stopped the program..not lobbying by social justice warriors and marxists....perhaps some cops should be on the subways as part of their job.....i dont pretend to have solutions...but spreading falsehhoods doesnt help

Most of them would probably refuse to go to a long term care facility, and the constitution would probably prevent them from being forced.
My guess is the "new Canadians" will mostly be productive and law abiding. Most of the street people I see look and sound like they were born here.

Amazing what one long editing stroke does to enable me to agree with your post.

To believe that the issue of street people/mental health/addiction/supportive housing and intervention is somehow related monetarily or even remotely to 'bringing in' a "1/2 or 1 million newcomers" mostly to address economic/demographic/sector employment issues is to stretch the bounds of credulity.

They can refuse, sure. And we can insist. There is just no will to do anything about it.

You have to have a serious cognitive deficiency if you don't see anything wrong with refugees/migrants competing with the domestic homeless for the shelter beds.
