Hello everyone, there's something that I've been keeping secret inside of me, and I think it's time I tell someone...

You see, last summer (2001) I went on a trip to Thailand.... I did a lot of things that most student tourists do; visiting the temples, checking out the spectacular islands and beaches, jungle treking... but there was a large aspect of my trip that I've kept secret...

I'm sure most of you know that Thailand is notorious for it's prostitution, and with good reason. In Bangkok, it's everywhere... there are touts for fancy massage parlours... the streets are teeming with prostitutes (who can sometimes be very agressive)... there are dozens and dozens of bars, strip clubs, bj bars.. etc, etc.... I can't say that this wasn't one of the big draws for my trip.

On my first night there I checked out the most famous part (prostitution-wise) of Bangkok, Patpong... For months, I read in disbelief about what went on here... and luckily, it was all true... I went up the stairs and found myself in this smallish bar with 6-8 fairly cute girls, as soon as I sat down 3 girls immediately went for my crotch.... In the back room the girl preceded to finish me orally (bare back)...

A few nights later I met up with a girl who was eating at the hotel restaurant... she wasn't particularly attractive, but I was week that night, and my urges got the best of me... in retropect I could have done much better.

After I returned from a jungle trek to the north, I checked into a different, but classier hotel. I went for a haircut at the hotel barber, I was met by an attractive Thai-Chinese girl, who after cutting my hair offered to give me a massage in my hotel room. Now, I didn't think this was going to be anything more that a straight forward Thai massage.... 5 minutes later she knocked at my door. I stripped down to my boxers, and was given a very solid back and leg massage. After she told me to turn over... I think you can guess what happened... The whole thing was similar to a MP experience in T.O.. except it was much cheaper, and it was done on a bed..

Finally, towards the end of my stay.. I met up with this one Thai girl through a massage service that was offered via the hotel. What began as a one night stand.. turned into something that lasted a week... This is something I truly regret. Many Thais live very modestly... and many of these women see a relationship with a western man as their ticket to a better life. I never wanted to have a relationship, but the girl became attached - calling me, coming to my room, etc, etc... in the end I felt bad about leaving.. but I left her with a fair bit of money, and she wrote me an e-mail telling me that she's back in school now.

That's pretty much it... had to get it off my chest...

I will tell you that I have been there also, one thing you should be aware, is please don’t make a fool of your self, don’t send her any money, many of those nice lady that you have seen over there, received every month money from many man around the world, that did fall in love with them, it is not uncommon that they will tell, that they have return to school, or they have to send money to her family so they can survive, but don’t fool your self she still doing exactly the same thing that she did, when you did meet her.

Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket and island of Koh Samui, are the most popular destination. For my self Pattaya is my favorite destination, for those 3 s sex, sun, service, but it should be avoid while US navy is there.

I would suggest also that you make some research about there belief and tradition, like you should never touch the head of someone, never point someone with your feet, and lady should never mess up with lady over there, be always up front with them, yes they will try to stick with you as much of possible, for example if you have pay the bar fine for a lady, and you bring her for a whole night to your Hotel, if you ever return to the same bar the days after, the same lady expect that you will pay the bar fine again for her, and take her out just like you did, if you don’t she will loose the face in front of other lady, and situation could become very rough, so make sure that you are telling her that you are a, what thy call a butterfly, that mean you will go from a flower to another, that way it could avoid bad situation. I have been in Thailand many many time, and that situation of loosing face is so important for them, that I still have problem to truly understand it, another thing what ever the situation is you should never raise you voice, that show that you have good education, and not necessarily the tall man that does won, so no one loose is face, it is easier to solve the problem.

Few place where you should start, first there is Go-Go bar, it is just like a strip bar where the lady will introduce them self, often will ask you to pay for a lady drink, and then you can pay her bar fine to take her out, and you will have to pay for short or long stay with the lady. In those establishment you will find very attractive girls, and a variety a show, a let say that into those show you will see thing that you will never forget.

There is also the massage parlours , you will have to choose a lady, in what they call a fish bowl, that are behind a large glass window, but what I suggest is that you talk with the papasans or mamasans, those people are there to help to choose a lady according of what kind of service you are looking for, and they know until what kind of service each girl is willing to go, often you will see girls trying to make contact with you behind the window, it has often been a wise choice for me. What you should know also is that many parlours are not for the foreign, but for Thai man, there is big chance that they will accept you, but you will often pay twice as a Thai man, and usually the lady will not speak English.

And the most common place in Pattaya, are beer bar, they are place out side where you can seat relax and have a beer, usually the girls are inside and consumer out side the service bar, it is a very laid back atmosphere, where you can chat with a lady without feeling any pressure, they will often ask you to play game, it is a nice way to get to know a little better the girl before you take her out.

Later in night, you should stick around Disco where many freelancer, gogo girls and bar girls will hang out after there bar are close, this is often there last chance to be pick up by someone, so rate are usually lower.

Few details you should know, in Thailand they do make difference between, age of consent for sex, and lady that does work into sex industries, age of consent for sex in 15, for the lady in sex industries is 20 and not 18 just like many people will tell you, so don’t fool with law and police in Thailand, make sure to ask for id, before you put you self into trouble, lady over there already look very young so there is no need to look for under age lady, and if you ever get arrested, I did not know about it , will not help you.

I stayed in Bangkok for 6 weeks, and I can tell you pretty much anything about the place. I skipped the jungle tours etc. (though took a train to Malaysia) to spend 100% of my time researching sex. Thailand is beautiful, but personally anytime spent outside of bars is a bit of a waste. It surprises some to know that a friend of mine asked which of 40 women would do a BJ if they came back to his hotel for the night and only 2 would. In addition, I never saw a single underage girl there in the hundreds of places I visited (despite what the media here might have you think). Maybe once..not now. Price for an escort is about $45 USD for all night (until noon the next day). They always have condoms. In Cambodia it is $2 for an hour.
Girls usually give sob stories to extort money from new boyfriends (usually the "buffalo at the farm died") story or similar.

I will tell you that I have been In Pattaya at least once per years over the past 7 last years, Pattaya, is a big open house sex party, and yes drugs is often part of those party, there is a lot of young American and European, that are there only for trouble, but just like into many city around the world there is some place that you should not walk in, or some district that you should not cross, but I never had any problem of any kind while I was there.

I am born in Germany, and let me tell you that into many city across Europe there is also a lot of surprising and terrifying district and area, but I think that Thailand is still a safe place where you can still enjoy your self, and where police are really willing to help you out, if you could be in any trouble, if there is some kind of corruption of the police in Thailand, it is not that they will try to rip some money from tourist, in fact I would feel more secure into a police station in Thailand, that I would be if I was in many other country, even those where a lot of Canadian are taking there winter vacation.

I work into tourism, and if I would have to rate the security of the tourist while they are visiting the country, I would give Thailand and 8 of 10, I think that you have more chance of being hurt by and elephant in Bangkok, that you have the chance of being rob and kill by a robber. IMHO

After reading about what happens to the Burmese girls that work in Bangkok, I doubt that I will ever visit Thailand.

I have a very low tolerance to being accosted by pushers and addicts. This is the reason why I haven't made a return trip to Amsterdam since 1990. I got downright balefull on a coke pusher who just wouldn't leave me alone. My "tequila slammer" t-shirt made him think I was an easy mark. Finally, I told him that if he followed me past the Damrak a knuckle souffle would be served and he relented.

Later, when I told my Dutch friends about it, I got verbally slapped upside the head. I was told that if I had rumbled with the pusher, his gumbahs would have swarmed me like a pack of wolves and no one would have helped me. There are some things in life that you just grow out of and I've never gone back to Amsterdam.

Iguana, you must have tremendous stamina.
I really enjoy doing other things, plus I am more fresh and ready for the long night.
I like to clear my head by relaxing poolside, travel around, golf, restaurants, massage, and a bit of shopping sometimes.

Mikeffd, I am also one who often feels very sorry for some of these women.
There is nothing wrong with helping them out, I've done it many times, but Bobqc is absolutely right.
Never get too attached and never send money.
Sometimes it can be difficult to avoid getting thrust into a relationship but you must be very strong.
Apparently many guys get sucked into what they think is a relationship, send money and visit once in awhile.
Some of them actually believe she is not working anymore and that she is waiting for him.
Some of these guys give the girls plenty of cash and they do not have to work anymore, but they still do anyway.
These girls have letter templates available to work over naive gullible men. Just change the names and they are all set.
I heard a joke about how you are not paying for sex, you are paying them to leave in the morning.
It seems that many Thai women have never heard of this.
One of my buddies once staged his arrival a few weeks after he actually got there, just so he could enjoy some freedom.

For me, Thailand is pretty well the best place on earth. And though I'm probably a pretty shallow guy, it's not just the girls that I love about the place. I majored in Buddhism and my first 6 month trip to LOS (Land of Smiles), was study related. The food, the culture, the people, I have a very strong affinity for them all. Iguana, I can't believe you find time outside the bars to be wasted. The bars are ok for night time etc., but you are missing the best part of the trip if you don't get to know a few Thais well enough to hang out with them. They are the best partiers and coolest people I've ever met.

In recent years development has changed Thailand a lot. Though you can still pretty well find anything you're looking for in the sex biz, it is not as predominant or wide open as it was on my first trip. Thais have become MUCH more exposed to Western culture and these days are far too savy too be taken advantage of.

If your trip to Thailand is short, (say three weeks or less), then you pretty well have to hit the bars, cafes and other traditional places to pick up girls. But, if you have a bit more time on your hands, and take the trouble to learn a few words of Thai - the sky's the limit. I'm going back in July and will not waste my time in the over priced bars etc, (PATPONG IS THE WORST!).

If I'm desperate, I'll pick up one of those oh so sexy mini-skirted manicurists who sit in the window on Sukumvhit, but more likely, it'll be a Sales girl from a department store or a bank teller. I'm getting excited just thinking of it.

Don't know about Pattaya, but I recently returned from Phuket (Patong Beach) and have to say that it's heaven on earth. Incredible beaches, perfect weather (at least when I was there), great food, universally friendly people, beautiful women (and lots of them -- the beer bars have to be seen to be believed), and cheap, cheap, cheap prices on just about everything.

An example... 2 1/2 hour massage (BBBJ included) for 60 baht (about US$1.75). I tipped her 500 baht and she wanted to come home with me.

I was sort of kidding about the bars. But much of the countryside, beaches etc. you can do in many countries. The women are what sets Thailand apart. I travelled the entire length of the country twice (arrived from Malaysia by train, and took train back to Mayalsia once). I speak a little bit of Thai, but I think picking up department store girls would have been quite difficult for me. In 6 weeks I don't remember talking to a Thai person for more than 2 minutes...so I don't really know how to go about it. It seems like there are many women who would talk to you, but you'd get no further, so I didn't bother trying that route. I first went to Philippines, but found absolutely no comparison with Thailand.
I almost went to Pattaya, but thought it might be a little too much. I think travelling around and meeting Thais would be cool too, but if I ever get to Thailand again it's unlikely to be for more than 2 days!!

That is hard to believe, unless you were given a present.
That sounds more like a tip for the waitress or cleaning lady, or condom charge.
From what I have been reading, I thought massages were anywhere from 1500 to 5000 baht these days.
You must have paid something for the room which included the massage.
I have not been in a long time but I don't think you can get a beer for 60 baht anymore, at least not in any gogo bars.
Even the BJ bars charge 500 to 700 baht for a quickie.

Legal age is now 20. Some people pay too much, so there is a wide range. I think 1500 baht can arrange an all nighter usually "Long Time". Maybe 800 baht for "short-time". Top-end hotels might stop girls going in. Most mid range hotels either permit, or are in the business of bringing girls to you. There is also the ubiquitous bar fine..maybe 400 baht to the bar? I have heard of girls asking for double these prices...the vets (johns) always pay the least. So called "Superstars" (read flawless) in massage parlours and elsewhere are much more expensive. I'd like to hear the most recent pricing news from anyone who knows. $1 US = 45 baht
Katoeys....I always ask them 'Are you a lady boy?"..but you often have a sense. Maybe the 60 baht massage and bj was just that.

60 Baht was the door fee. I was surprised myself to get the service I did but I sure wan't going to refuse it. The girl asked for a tip afterward and seemed more than happy with the 500 baht I gave her.

There were hundreds (at least) of girls milling about the Beer Bar area of Patong Beach after the sun went down. Many were of "model quality" and I was told that virtually any of them would be happy to spend the night with me for 1500 baht.

Maybe one of the reasons I made out so well is that I met a couple of Canadian guys in one of the bars. One guy has lived in Phuket for 3 years while his friend had been there for 4 months (after coming for a 2 week visit). They hooked me up at the massage parlor and also provided an absolutely stunning girl to entertain me during the 30 minute "cab" ride (not really a cab, more like a gasoline powered golf cart) from Patong beach back to the Phuket Deep Sea Port where my ship was docked (I was on a cruise).

As inexpensive as Thailand was for me, I think even better deals can be found in Vietnam. While walking around an open air market in Da Nang, several girls walked up to me, grabbed my crotch and whispered "one dollah, one dollah". Since I was with my parents, I couldn't really take them up on the offer but it sure was enticing.

I spent 7 months in thailand about a year and a half ago. Spent all my time in Chiang Mai and most of what these guys are saying is true. I used to go to this hotel and they had a "spa" area. Where the girls would sit behind a window watching TV and when you walked in you go to see them all and choose which one you wanted to spend time with. 1500 baht got you about an hour and a half in a very nice room with a huge bed and even bigger tub. The whole deal was the girl would wash you in the tub from top to bottom and then she would wash herself and then you would have fun. So it was a hotel run in call service where you knew the girls were at least clean when you went. Most of the hotels in Chiang Mai had this. I only knew of one that didn't. But they were all the same thing. Wish I was still there, miss it alot and have never been able to find anything close to that here. oh well, must keep hunting.
