do not call

Ever since I posted my name on the DNC list, I am receiving more calls than ever. Most I get cannot be recognized because the number shows as an unknown caller so I cannot register a complaint. I am getting really pissed. Anyone with any suggestions please.

Engage them in a conversation about what they are peddling, get them to tell you how to reach them, than tell them you are going to report them after they give you the info. It takes a minute, but I find they leave you alone after this. Failing that, tell them to "TAKE ME OFF YOUR FUCKING LIST!!" before they can get a word in, which can be just as effective.

Not a bad idea to engage them at all.
I did it once with one of those Nigerian scam artists, got them going and thinking that I was ready to meet and hand them over a cheque. :p

I find that when they call and it's usually a very small co. They don't even check with a list. They just say, I'm sorry to bother you and i say I'm going to report you. What a pain in the a.s.s when you get any of these calls.

Did it awhile ago. Still get the odd call here and there but not the daily ones I used to get.

It has been a well known fact reported by the media that putting yourself on the DNL just makes it worse.

Well I'd call it more a belief than a fact, since it's just people's opinions that they are receiving more than they were. For awhile there it seemed like I was getting more calls than usual, but they were all from the same #... so does that count as 1 or several?

I don't know why any telemarketing company would choose to call #'s from the don't call me list as I'd take it as a given that the likelihood of a sale from one of those #s would be lower than just cold-calling a number not on the list.

Worst was the telemarketing call from Bell. Because I 'have an existing business relationship" with them, he hadn't bothered to even check to see if I was also on Bell's DNC list (I was). Any guess who got the CRTC contract to police DNC violations?

Bell.
