New Year's Day is one of the biggest days on the NCAA Football sched.
6-8 bowl games yearly.
This is the first time, since I started following them in the 70's,that I can recall NO GAMES scheduled!!!!!
So sad!

When they started adding corporate names to the bowl game titles i loose any real attachment. and then they have teams with 6-6 records or not even rated in the top 25 teams playing for a win, it;'s gets to be really watered down. As for the empty schedule, it's the almighty buck going to the NFL, not much more. All the bowl games would do is water down the audience.

No one wants to go head to head with Sunday NFL. They will be back next year (but less then before), as they stretch games out for a week.

I don't understand why fans get so annoyed at the 6-6 or 7-5 teams going ot a bowl game, or the number of bowl games. Yes, we get it for most the games are totally uninteresting Simply don't watch and don't whine about it. Is it that hard to do?

Hardcore college football junkies and fans of the team can watch those games and that is all they are targeted at.

I ignore most of the games other then some of the BCS games, but if Syracuse makes a lower bowl I will watch it. For a team like Syracuse, sadly making a bowl game is a significant goal and achievement based on where they were at.

You're right about the hardcore fan, but the bowl games are simply for bragging rights and marketing for the alumni money. For the senior ball player who is not going onto the pros they are a great way to exit the arena and the memories live a loooooooong time, but some times the match ups make you shake your head.

All true, but do not explain why companies pay good bucks to sponsor/advertise these meaningless mediocre games that have such limited fan interest.

As maurice said, these games would get slaughtered in ratings if they went head to head with the NFL. Not to mention the fact that which networks will broadcast these games when they've paid billions of dollars for the NFL rights.

Back in the day, we had Rose, Cotton, Orange and Sugar bowls. Probably the top 8 teams in the country. Those games were meaningful. Greed=expansion=mediocrity.

There must be 1,000 bowl games now. Heard there is even a "Pinstripe Bowl". What in blazes is the Pinstripe Bowl?

No one wants to go head to head with Sunday NFL.
You do know that when the NFL first started playing, they wanted Saturdays. They had no choice but to settle on Sundays. No way they could compete with the NCAA and their numerous near/over 100,000 strong crowds.
Anyways,I finally got fed up with the NFL around the time New England took a Super Bowl ready team away from a good QB,and gave it to an over-rated one.(The guy that married a so-called supermodel, but has a face that looks like a horse?)Even Bradshaw could have won consistantly with that team, and he was old then!!
Jan.1st Bowl Games were such a tradition.Hung over all day,and laying around, from 11a.m. to almost midnight, eyes glued on the boobtube, and channel surfing the different games that were on at the same time.
It will never be the same!!
Like I said before,so sad!

I think they realized that all the NFL games are Jan 1.
Why compete with that?

During the 2nd game of the 2001 season, Bledsoe was hit by Jets linebacker Mo Lewis and suffered a sheared blood vessel in his chest.
His spot wasn't taken away from him. He lost it due to injury and the play of Tom Brady.

They are all on tomorrow. The NFL owns Sunday. This always happens when New Years is on a Sunday. So the parades, and bowl games are tomorrow, Monday, January 2. Sucks if you have to work.

When new years day falls on sunday there have never been ncaa games on jan 1st. Reason 1 last week of nfl, but even before nfl took off 50 years ago even if nyd was sunday no bowl games due inpart to the fact that there were only 5 to 9 bowl games and the rose parade kicked off the day. the rose parade route in pasadenia is on a street with a lot of churches and they didn't want that conflict and the tradition just stuck.

Whether the games are on January 1 or January 2, one bowl tradition remains. The Big 10 losing in bowl games.

They are about to go 0-4 in this afternoon's four games. That will make them 2-7 on the Bowl Season.

LOL. at the announcer in the OSU/Florida game questioning Virginia Tech being in a BCS game. Michigan has a worse BCS ranking plus is a member of the Bowl Loser Conference. If any team's spot in the BCS should be highly crticized it is Michigan. It's simple -- Tech got in the for the same reason as Michigan -- they made the most sense $$ wise

I like the good old days when there were only 4 bowl games and they were all on January 1st. I can't be bothered now because there 150 bowl games and they are all over the calendar instead of just Jan 1.
