Is the NDP leadership race imploding? Lot's of press about Broadbent trashing Mulclair. Reminds me of Iggy vs Rae. Mulclair wants to move the party to the middle to be indestinguisable from the Liberals. True, that's the only way they will win an election but is this what the party wants?

Every party is always like this, you just woke up?

There are always factions that want to steer the others in the direction they would like, can you name a party that doesn't?

The Liberals under most of Chretien's rein weren't. The current Consevatives aren't. This is the first time the NDP has been this divided, in fact I don't recall them every being this divided on matters of ideology. Of course they have never been this relevant before either.

Socialism seems to be working quite well in Sweden and the rest of Northern Europe, consider by many to be some of the best countries in the world to live in.

Maybe Rae and Mulcair can unite the left at a centre-left position and take out the tories!

They also have policies that you (well many) would consider unacceptable (such a limited immigration) and they also have something that we don’t, a very high work ethic....a high work ethic can make socialism work…..

We don't limit immigration? News to me.

A good work ethic does help as it would in any system yet is hard to hold up in isolation They all rank in the top countries in quality of life, education, productivity, age expendancy. It must be nice for someone to know if shit happens, you won't be left high and dry totally. Sweden in particular, has in the past and should still expects you to learn Swedish on 5(?) years in order to retain all the benefits of their country. I don't think that a bad idea as it keeps the hangers-on from just going and living in isolated ghetto-like conditions for life. If you live here we expect you to contribute, eventually. That's an area of thinking that Canada falls a tad short.

But first, you have to create the wealth, via the free market system, as ALL of the supposedly socialist countries do, BEFORE you can spend it.

So first came the free market in the northern European countries, then came the socialist government and life style. Really? The two go hand in hand and have done so since the mid 30`s. When did the free market start in Sweden? The industrial Revolution and it increased productivity was a more major contribution, oddly enough with establishment of the trade union in the mid 1800`s. The importance of higher education was always a priority in most Scandinavian countries and still is today.

How`s your reading on the difference between socialism and communism coming along. You went silent after your `challenge` was met. You couldn`t find anything to support your opinion? I guess you were happy with the answer and couldn`t counter it. It good to see you got your happy ending.

Socialism is not the same as communism

I should have not used the word "system" in "the free market", obviously confused you.
Of course capitalism came first, socialism is a term used to describe political attempts to abolish capitalism, around the time of the French revolution.
That obviously DID NOT work, so the dreamers, communist, tried something else, take away freedom, that also DID NOT work.
So now we are still left with the delusional believing that socialism exists without capitalism/free market system.
Since it CANNOT, logic, a term very foreign to socialists, dictates, socialism DOES NOT EXIST.

Still no insults !!!!

Compare to liberal infighting this is a pillow fight.

Mulcair if you actually read his policies isn't a centrist, but that doesn't fit the media's narritive, so they ignore. He has said repeatedly that he doesn't want to move the party to the centre. He's words are ignored. He could nationalized the Oil industry and the media would be convinced it was a plan to move the party to the right.

The idea of a centre is a popular fiction, there,is no political centre only illusions.

Well then his only chance of keeping his Quebec seats is to suck up to the PQ, which he has already done to some extent. Bye Bye
