I wear a suit and tie to work. While most of the office is business casual, management is always a suit and tie in the company I work for.

I like wearing a suit everyday. A good suit makes any man look better although it can get very hot in the summers.

Nope. Even if I am meeting downtown I just wear a jacket and dress shirt.

avoid ties but, if have to loosen it a bit and undue the top button.
The boss goes Brian Burke styles very loose and sometimes untied or even around his head.
Well only when he is drunk and getting back from an SP.(even has a fancy tie for the little boss)

I'm in a birthday suit everyday and night, with a robe mixed in now and then.

I've worn super wide ties and super narrow ties and everything in-between. Business casual is actually fairly conservative.

Tidbit: When somebody asked Mark Zuckerberg why he wears a hoodie. He said that he has to make important decisions everyday and what to wear isn't one of them.

Yes, if in court, or meeting with clients. If just working in the office particularly in the summer - no.

Further ties can send so many signals - membership in organizations, descent, support for causes, hobbies

When working I wear a suit and tie. Part of the work "uniform". Not a problem for me.

A suit is the work uniform for me. Looking good and like a top professional helps my self esteem and my image.

This and this.

I also find that I get much better treatment in retail establishments and restaurants when dressed in a suit and tie. I think that is a very wrong approach by the vendors, because the attire isn't always a good indication of the person's spending power or intentions.
The same thing applies for MPs, when going as a first timer. Again, not necessarily right, but that has been my experience.

I predict that in our lifetime, ties in the workplace will be as rare as the fedora hat. Even now, I rarely see male tellers wearing a tie where I bank.

" I think that is a very wrong approach by the vendors, because the attire isn't always a good indication of the person's spending power or intentions." I agree, I've seen well to do ladies shop in torn jeans or yoga pants.

I hate wearing a tie, I hated dressing up period. I'm happy with jeans and a T-shirt. (or shorts)

an old irish guy at my previous job said "how do you know you're at work without a noose around your neck?"

So ties do have a practical function. LOL On the other hand, the tie (unless it is a bow) can be a safety hazard e.g. it gets caught in the photocopier.

RobRoy is bang on. I wear a suit and tie every day because I want my clients to know I take my profession and their money seriously. I am not dressed for the golf course. I am dressed for the office.
I don't want to highjack the thread but I also wear a hat every day. I wish I had started with the hat years ago! I have never in my life had so many hot women of all ages, come up to me and say how great I looked. It literally happens almost every day. I have even had women call and wave across the parking lot that I looked great with the hat. And I am no model. Overweight, overage and out of shape but the hat still works. Don't think it would have been the same it I was not wearing a suit and tie.

I don't wear a suit to work but in my office we do wear ties. I like wearing a tie although on the really hot days it's often problematic. I'm always looking for new ties.
