So here's the short of it, any help is greatly appreciated:

Now I am not that computer literate.

- the modem and router are upstairs (linksys)
- my mothers new computer is in the room immediate downstairs
- her netbook can connect fine from the same downstairs room.
- she just had a wireless card recently installed at the computer store (and they tested the card/connection at the computer store)
- in the downstairs room her computer can not connect to the router

I go to the connection and search for a signal but I can not locate any wireless signals from her computer (the homes or even any neighbours, even though my laptop can locate several neighbourhood routers from the upstairs room)

The error message I get is: "Windows cannot config this wireless connection" and also some sort of error 871122. I looked up this error code on the microsoft website but I don't completely understand it, also considering how at the computer store it was tested.

We have a linksys adapter that worked fine with her old computer, but for some reason this one does not work on this new computer. My brother did say he did successfully set it (the adapter) up on her new computer, but when she tried it later that day we got the same above error, which is why she went out and got a wireless card.

I guess trying to set up her computer directly via a cable to the router is a last resort. However, due to where the telephone jack is, it will be a bit of a inconvenience to set up, and I would like to resolve the actual issue.

Thank you in advance
