you'll need to buy rambus dimms in pairs, so 512 will be 2 x 256mb and will run you like $270.

rambus is hard to get and you usually have to order it. you could always try ebay

I've never looked inside a VAIO, but if it's got "custom" RAM the way a Gateway does, you have my condolences.


One of the greatest scams in the computer industry is the use of non-universal parts specific to one company's specs. That ensures you must buy components from them at their price.

Even though the prices on boxed computers are dropping faster than a pair of shorts at an orgy, I still stand by the policy of building my own. It saves headaches later when I pop the case open and see what junk they saw fit to saddle me with. Laptops are a little more problematic but still, a more generic laptop will still be infinitely more easily repaired/upgraded than a system using custom parts.

I'd agree, if it wasn't for the fact that even Kingston no longer manufactures this type of RAM...

RDRAM is expensive

Kingston doesn't make RDRAM any more. Crucial/Micron never made it. One of my suppliers carries the Samsung in stock - good quality RAM with lifetime manufacturers warranty, but not cheap.

I PMd you with some addtional details - not sure how well playing swap shop on TERB is appreciated by the mods.
