Just some technical notes. The hardness experienced by some women with implants is a result of thick scar tissue forming around the implant. Certain types of implants are more likely to result in this problem. Saline implants are the least realistic, silicone gel second and the original silicone (n/a in Can/US) the best. In Canada, 800cc is allowable (as of last year), in the US the limit is about 1200cc (although more is possible) and elsewhere the surgeon seems to determine his/her own limits.

Like I said..... Capsular Contracture

The funny thing is (or not so funny for those it happens to) is that the scar tissue does not always form evenly and can cause the implants to shift or become more compressed in one area than another making the breast look lumpy or oddly shaped.
The scar tissue can also contract around the implant so tightly that it breaks, very rare, but it does happen.

A regimin perscribed by the plastic surgeon of a special massage technique applied anywhere from 2 -5 times a day for 6-8 months after surgery usually helps to keep the "pocket" open and prevent capsular contracture.

artificial tits also require periodic readjustment by a doctor, they can slip out of place. This more complicated and expensive than just buying her a sexy new bra. The new bra can be fun, though.
