Who holds the record for most career Major League at bats with a .500 career batting average, (1972 is the only year he batted, and he hit two home runs)?
Don Durham.

Durham was a pitcher for the St Louis Cardinals, (1972), and the Texas Rangers, (1973). He didn't bat for Texas because 1973 was the first year for the designated hitter in the American League.

Today's closers would have lots of blown saves as well if they were brought in for 2 and 3 inning saves like the closers of the 70s and 80s. So hard to compare post 1990 closers vs those closers that excelled when the role rose to relevancy in the 70's and through the 80's,

Closers and pens back then were not managed like today. I guess that is what happens when teams had 10 men staffs in those eras, and some of them barely pitched.

I'm not saying they were any better than the post 1990 elite closers, but those aces who pitched 120-140 innings in a season inherently provided more value because of usage.
