niemi is overrated and the hawks made a good decision letting him go.
You think Marty Turco is any better? Turco will turn 35 in a few months, and he's always played with a very good Dallas team for most of his career. Niemi surplanted the nearly $6 million goalie (Huet) and led the Hawks all the day to the Stanley Cup, something very few goaltenders in this league can boast.
Considering what some of the other goalies in the league are getting (e.g. Pascal Leclair, Rick Dipietro, J.S. Giguere, Jaroslav Halak, etc), i think getting Niemi for $2.75 million would have been a bargain for many teams.
There is no way 'old' Marty Turco will last the season as the Hawks' #1 goalie....or else the Hawks won't go far in the playoffs. Heck, even Dallas didn't even want him as their 2nd stringer!
