No smoking

The bars & restaurants in San Francisco & Vancouver have been non-smoking for a long time and there's no shortage of supply in either city. Now admittedly, both cities have a temperate climate and a somewhat different view on lifestle than us Easterners do. But even Ireland banned smoking in pubs; I would have thought that Europeans would have protested louder and more vehemently than us North Americans did when it came to smoking & drinking.

Time will tell if this no smoking bylaw was the right thing to do. As a non smoker, I'm loving it! But I predict that in the future, we'll all be living in a city that has lots of bars and restaurants and clubs and they'll all still be smoke-free, just as we have cars with airbags and seatbelts today.

Hey you "free enterprise" smokers, you whiners have it so good. You're still allowed to smoke outdoors! My rights have been trampled much worse than that, I have a legal gun and I am not even allowed to shoot it off anywhere in the city. What the hell is that? It's a legal gun, it's not illegal, I should be able to shoot wherever I want.

I think we ought to have shooting bars where I can go and have a few beers and fire off my gun. I am a good shot, I will mostly hit the target and I don't think I will hit any staff or customers very often. I'm just like you guys--some idiot says it's in the public health interest that I can't shoot my gun in the bar! WTF is that? We should let the bar owner decide if he wants to allow shooting or not, let every bar make its own choice.

At least I should be able to shoot outside anywhere I want like you can. I should be able to step out on Bay street at lunch and set up a target by my building, practice my shooting. WTF not? It's a legal gun, how stupid is it that I can't use my legal gun anywhere I want? Free enterprise! My rights have been trampled!

I should be able to shoot my gun in my own home and my car too. Why not? It's mine! And all this BS about locking it up and stuff, I should be able to do whatever I want in my own home this public health/safety stuff is just BS!

You smokers should lead the charge, this public health and safety stuff is BS, they're taking all the fun out of life! I want my gun!

In the case of a neighbourhood with 6 or 7 donut shops 3 closing is just survival of the fittest.

What an odd phrase to use in conjunction with a donut shop .


It's a bit of a race to see what will kill you first cigarettes or donuts . I say tax the shit out of donuts for a few years and then ban eating them in public . There is nothing more disgusting than watching a 300 pound person chomp through a jelly-filled .

No one thinks that Gov should ban donuts , fries and KFC so why is everyone so high and mighty on smoking . If there is such a great demand for non-smoking bars then the marketplace would have consisted of both smoking and non-smoking establishments without the need for Gov intervention . If you go to bars often enough that second hand smoke is a worry then perhaps you have a few other issues as well . Ban smoking in restaurants - Yes all for it - bars - what's the point ?

( As an aside it is 4 months since my last smoke and 3 years since my last donut.....lol ) .

Actually, this is not entirely true. There are many discussions about setting higher taxation on unhealthy foods to start curbing those choices, which is where it all started for smoking and the high level of taxation attached to it. Over the course of decades, unhealthy foods will undoubtedly be targetted in the same fashion as smoking is but it will likely never be a total ban for one simple reason: while things like donuts and alcohol are bad in large quantities, smoking is toxic at any level.

Come to think of it, there might be a food ban of sorts before a total cigarette ban when you consider the way things are going with trans fat foods.....

or in a less violent example. golf- golf clubs and golf balls are legal- but I can't go to the park or the street and just start using my driver.
