not another importing cars from the US thread....

just to let you know, all Canadian dealer service shops now have to honour warranties on US bought vehicles providing the warranty has not been voided. I just had to get my tranny serviced on our 2010 Jeep Wrangler. and when I first moved to Canada I had to fix an electrical issue with my 07 Subaru.

You guys pay stupid prices for your cars here. yeah, i know- economies of scales stuff. but that need not be. just get a loan or loc from your bank, arrange the vehicle of your choice in Buffalo, Erie, Rochester or Detroit and make out a final US$ bank draft to them, call your insurance provider and give them the VIN of your vehicle, go down and get it, with a trip permit... bring it to the border, pay the RIV fee and bring it to a Canadian Tire to have the mechanical inspection done to it, then go to the license MTO office, pay to get plates, put them on and voila! it's that easy and you can save nearly 30% on some vehicles. 5% on others (particularly ones made here in Ontario)

which is rediculous to think you can save money if you live in Alliston and you go to buffalo to buy your Honda! but, it's so true.

why not? is wrong in saying it can take months. Canadian Tire has all of the necessary modifications needed in stock for nearly all vehicles. and also, the near border US dealerships are familiar in what is required in Canada, so you can pay for the needed options there, such as Daytime running lights, etc.. but, alot of vehicles in many states now have those anyways.

I'm currently looking to buy a bike in the next four weeks. will definitely be from the US. i'll let you know how simple the process is as I do it.

Sorry my bad.....

But the key words there are:

MAY include.

You MAY have to replace the tires, you MAY have to replace the transmission, you MAY have to replace the brakes.

That's a mighty big MAY.
I agree with you about "may". But like I said, do your research and find out about the specific vehicle before commiting. Then compare the full delivered-in-Ontario prices.

I hear you pitts....it isn't even so much the volume of sales since the autopact allows for vehicles to be made on both sides of the border and shipped each way. I think it was the windstar (ford) that was made in oakville and at any given moment the lot was filled with 70% US vehicles and 30% Canadian. It certainly costs a shitload less to ship a car 20 blocks down the road than to Texas yet the price of the vehicle was cheaper in texas.

Same as the Hondas made in Alliston: ship it to the US and buy it 30% cheaper yet if you live in Alliston, the plant is close enough to hit with a snowball.

It's all BS really. I think the auto industry (and electronics) hasn't caught on to the concept of global market. I mean, if a distributor is bringing in 10,000 plasma screens from china and 2,000 get diverted to Toronto as opposed to buffalo, where does the 30% come from?
