My Dell work laptop is dying a slow death it's about time for a replacement. In the past I had Toshiba Satellite Pro and was happy with it. However online reviews of newer models are negative. Can someone recommend a good notebook computer less than $1K that can handle business applications in accounting, tax and financial planning? Much appreciated.

The "Geek Q&A Thread" seems to be dominated by notebook / laptop recommendations. But Accounting, tax, and financial planning aren't particularly work-heavy applications for any computer today; you'll want to look for other ergonomic factors that make you happy as well.

How old is it and what is the OS? All Windoze PCs slow down with age unless proper PM is routinely done to keep them running at their best. A simple reformat and OS reinstall may be all that is needed to make it run like new again.
FWIW, I have a 7+ yr old dual core AMD Toshiba Satelite laptop that still runs Vista and Linux like new....knock on wood but all required PM was done over the years to keep it at peak performance.

Agree with Anynym in that the business apps you list will cause no strain on any new 300-350 buck laptop today. I'd never pay $1K for any laptop today! Maybe 500 tops!

Top rated Asus is the only laptop I'd consider today but haven't checked out the latest ratings.
Just make sure it has an Intel CPU and an HDMI port!

Never been a big fan of laptops, always preferred a destop for their power and longevity.
