This netbook sounds interesting. Just got my new, old ipad....so far I love it. It is slow but that could be because the internet connection at my Hotel SUCKS!!!!!!! I am an electronic junkie, I admit it, ;) I am always wanting the next best thing, the coolest toys, the neatest devices lol.

I would say Lady...that if you are OVERBURDENED with financial obligations..that this is the perfect opportunity to NOT DO what you usually do...and that is to spend money on needless 'stuff'.

That's how you got to the place you are at. You are in a great industry, that requires little overhead...so now is the time to change your mindset....pay debt... instead of building it!!!

Well thank you for the advice hon, I actually rarely spend much on myself, my money goes to supporting my kids and grandkids. Rent, Hotel, Diapers, Formula, sick son, etc. etc. Now and then I just have to splurge on myself you know? I may always WANT the latest cool gadgets but I simply add them to my wish list, I do restrain myself from actually purchasing them. Hopefully the ipad will actually help with work, I usually spend most of my time cooped up in my room because I don't want to miss an email from a prospective client, or am working on the new website or updating adds etc. etc. with the ipad I may actually be able to leave the hotel yet still be able to 'work'.

I know I know, I have to have all the toys lol I want to have something I can use instead of the laptop when I go out, I have been told the ipad is perfect for that.
I just want the original one, so if you have a good ipad that does not get used now because you have the brand new ipad 2,,,,,,,let me know. :)

I have desktop and a few laptops and thought the same as you...perfect when I'm on the road etc. So I bought an iPad and love it. But when traveling etc I have to also carry my laptop as copy and paste sucks on the iPad and there is no flash.

So for emails , the boards etc it's great. For my advertising I still have to carry a laptop....just my .02

Funny how you Apple fanobois have ALWAYS ALL the bad luck!

And that Mr. Woodpecker is why people love Apple.
Well Mr rubs....
Been using M$ for 14+ yrs and never had anything that bad happen.
Must be luckier than you(s), eh.

FWIW, first thing I would do is install a dual boot with Linux on that netbook....because it JUST WORKS, oh and it wouldn't have cost me a penny extra.....

That way I would have W7 & Linux for ~$250 instead of > $500 she got taken to the cleaners for......

BTW.....how is Flash working on the iPud???

So far she hasn't said a peep of a complaint. Ever consider that there are a lot of people who really don't give a shit about a lot of that?
Flash IS ubiquitous, works fine for us on M$ & Linux!

Guess all those lot of 'people you know' are just happy paying MORE for a limited product that does LESS....:eyebrows:

Yup. UNlike you and I on Terb, they have real lives and the iPad suits them perfectly!
Uhm, I'm on Terb, have an iPad and a real life. It can be done, it just takes a bit of juggling.

BTW, ever notice the people who crap all over apple are the ones who have never owned one?

...And you come marching into the thread with your suggestion of getting a netbook, figuring out how to dual boot it and learn how to use Linux...sure, anyone *could* learn how to do this however the time and resources are often not available, or simply the interest to do so.
Seriously WM, looks like you haven't been paying attention.

The lady admits to being overburdened with financial obligations, plus has never owned/used one of them limited, underpowered, sleek bright & shiny but very pricey iToys! Being a helpful gentleman I thought it would be useful pointing out the money she can save via another option, instead of attempting top pick her pockets as Apple bois are prone to do....

Since she has to learn a new OS anyways, try Linux on a more powerful netbook that will in the end run circles around that iPud. It even runs Flash no problem! Plus Windows 7 comes with it at HALF the cost of an iPud.....

Rumors are there will be iPad 3 coming out with in the next year not sure if the rumor is true. But some of the features they said the new iPad 2 would of have did not . But if your looking to buy the iPad 2 order it from http://www.apple.com/ca/ipad/

I also heard the iPad 3 will have 3D without glasses feature.

You are actually suggesting the learning curve of Linux is comparable to an Ipad?

Also you instructions include doing the technical first part of taking a Windows built netbook and putting Linux on it - are you going to do that for her for free and on her schedule the day she gets the device?

Cheers
Was just offering up an alternative option.
I don't know her technical abilities.
Perhaps Linux would not be that much of a challenge....:eyebrows:

Awwww fellas, please don't argue on my account.
I do want to save $ but at the same time I am not technically inclined. I have to get my kids to show me how to use each new phone I get lol. I can't even program my own remote sigh I am good at a lot of things but technology is just not one of them.
Thank you for all of the advice however, it has helped me make an educated decision based on my needs and my abilities as well as my finances.
Big HUG!!!!!!!!

I've found it difficult to get a deal on an IPAD. No discounts to be had at retail and few deals on used units. Finances being what they are, I ended up getting a Playbook.

Pros:
1. Much cheaper on CL; great deals to be had.
2. Smaller, much lighter.
3. Can tether to BB, and sync email/bbm/contacts/etc. (big plus, IMO).
4. Flash player.

Cons:
1. Smaller screen; less real estate to play with
2. No Kindle (Big negative for me)
3. Availability of apps is very limited.

That's actually one of the biggest gripes people have with the PlayBook.
i know. i thought it would be an issue too. but, i always have my phone with me anyways, and i like having my emails and bbm synced.
