my thoughts are with you and your family, but remember we do have some very good doctors around here and she is young enough that the problems could be dealt with.

The murmur aqnd the enlarged heart usually go together. The heart has top work harder to move blood and gets bigger. Once the murmur is fixed the heart usually settles itself down

***

I had a heart murmur as a child and it curred itself.

As for an enlarged heart I'm in the dark but having my own daughter I certainly can understand the anguish.

I pray it all works out...:(

I'm sorry to hear that. Just so you know a friend of mine has the heart murmer and they are constantly being monitored and have to be carefull, but otherwise they do lead a normal life. I hope your granddaughter will also be able to cope with the condition so their not affected much.

Thank you for your kind words all. I am a little freaked and my Daughter is beside herself right now. The Dr has prescribed aldactazide suspension????? She may need surgery. Is the surgery for the murmur or the enlargement? She is a tiny little thing and has always had a slight gurgle in her breathing.

Did the doctor not tell you what the treatments were for? I suggest taking a notebook with you when you go with your daughter. Let your daughter be all freaked out, you focus on what the doctor is saying and take it down so you understand it later. It's very hard to absorb it all just listening to him talk.

thank you both for your well wishes. Unfortunately my Daughter lives 3 hours away so I was not with her for this appointment, I am getting this info through her. She did tell me that the medication will make the baby pee a lot and she will have to have weekly blood tests to check her electrolytes ??

This is true and is not a big concern, other than the trips to have the weekly blood test done. (blood tests seem to be the normal method of monitoring changes in the heart and blood stream)

My niece was diagnosed with an extreme heart murmur when she was 14 months old, Doctors operated when she was 22 months old. Now she is a happy and healthy 12 year old girl with no major health problems.

I realize that this a scary time for you and your family.
Keep your hopes up.
I included the above example to show you that her condition (in most cases) can easily be fixed.

My heart goes out to you and your family.
No pun intended (to all you insensitive and uncaring folks who would comment)

Thank you SO much for that, I passed that on to my daughter and she was very relieved to hear it.

My son had a heart murmur when young. Had it operated on. Played soccer in grade school. Played football in high school, is now 35 and healthy.

Is there a greater risk for an enlarged heart/heart murmur from anaesthetic?
Glad to hear your son is fully recovered.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate circumstances.

Imagine living in a country where 80% of children die before age 5.

Sure is nice to live in Canuckistan isn't it?

Hope your grandchild is ok.

Cheers!

maybe post a few questions here
http://www.healthcentral.com/heart-disease/

or

http://ehealthforum.com/

but this is where I have found most of the help I have gotten as I have a condition that is so rare that I can find only a VERY few living with it ....great to know and talk to others in the same boat

http://www.medhelp.org/

the more contacts you make the better then VERIFY VERIFY and VERIFY what you are told .....educate yourself

I am sure that EVERYONE here will pray for the little one ...one of my granddaughters is 13 months so my empathy is strong

I do believe aldactazide is a diurectic. I have a feeling that since this condition was detected early it will be corrected and as the many posters have said before me everything will be okay.

the diuretic is to stop fluids from building up in the childs system stops bloating for lack of a better term.

Arrhymia ais an irregular heart beat a murmur is a sound generall from a heart valve not closing properly.

Before anybody panics a the phrase heart valve and not closing in the same sentence it is not that unusual a condition. In some cases it corrects itself the young ones heart actually grows out of the condition. There are surgical options available they are done everyday with an incredibly high success rate.

Between the diauretic to help lower the load on the heart and monitoring on a regular basis the proffessionals at sick kids can plan plan a course of treatment that will probably result in a full recovery.

The big thing here is to stay informed and in contact with the treatment team, let your daughter freak out for a while its a pretty good response to this type of news. You have to stay steady until she finishes with her initial reaction and starts functioning again.

Best of luck and there is light at the end of this tunnel.
