old video games

burt-oh-my!

I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that there is some place on the web you can go to to play old video games like ...darn, I can't remember the names of any of the others except the one I'm interested in - Cobra, a helicopter game. We're talking 1983 1984 ish here. Anyone know?

Trying to remember those old games - i think one was a bunch of missiles coming in you had to destroy using a big trackball thing, oh yes, of course there was Pacman.

Actually, i wonder if there are any ACTUAL old games of those i could buy? Hmmm, have to go on Ebay.

mame is a arcade machine emulator that will turn yur PC into an actual video game machine of old. Its easy to get on the web the hard part is getting what are calle the roms. the roms are the program extracted out of the rom chips that used to be in said arcade machine. Because of copyright laws one is supposed to own the actual rom chip (Or arcade machine in order to copy and use the program off the rom chips. There are ways to get those if you have the right contacts and there are Tons of roms in existance... last a checked a few years back the collection was in the thousands and yes cobra was part of it. There are also interesting plans on the net showing how to use an old pc + mame and build your own arcade machine!

HERE LET ME START YOU ON YOUR NEW ADDICTION:

http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/arcade/mame.html

PS games that used to have funcky controlers like the joystick that could also be twisted or the old paddle controler a la Pong can be difficult if not impossible to play with mouse/keyboard/joystick.

I did some searchng and the game was actually called Super Cobra. Thanks. It would be really cool to have the actual video game itself. what money makers those things must of been. Probably brought in 50 bucks a day, 1500 a month, 18 k a year, for a machine that probably cost a grand back then

I don't really get that MAME website, unless all it is designed to do is to tell you HOW to do it yourself (yeah right!). Does the guy SELL it?

Its actually all do it yourself. Go to the first link and download the mame emulator. then go to the second link and download the rom. Put the rom in the correct folder and run mame and enjoy. The cabinet build information is just to show how far some people go to get the whole feeing back ... nostalgia is a powerfull thing! If you want to buy the ehole thing already done it available on ebay for 2.5k more or less.
