Since there seems to be so many threads recently about negativity or at least focusing on the negative aspects of life, hobbying etc., I thought I would ask if you've ever come across anyone who is just so incredibly positive that they can't look at anything negatively. I'm not talking "the cup is half full" kind of foolhardy optimist, but the kind of people who's positive outlook is just contagious. I find these people incredible to observe.

I was listening to The Fan this morning as I was driving to work and I listened to Pinball Clemmons talking and no matter how many times I hear him he just impresses me. When it would be reasonable for someone to be a little bitter that his team should have been at the Grey Cup last weekend were it not for a blown call he talked just as enthuisiastically about preparations for next year.

His quote "Those guys that went to Regina last week for the Cup are already a week behind us (The Argos) in preparing for next year".

You can make all the jokes about how much of a head start the Argos need to be able to catch up with Montreal but I just can't get enough of that kind of positive thinking.

Who else has such a strong positive outlook that it affects you?

No doubt...
If you are going to coach sports, you have to be on a positive mode. Your face expersion, your tone of speech, your outlook must always be focused in motivating your players for success. Your fans have to believe in you and your team. You are right he always has a positive thing to say, even when refs screw up. There is nothing more exilerating then being around positive people in your surroundings. Many of us look to the negative side first before we look at the positive side of things. A well disaplined person has taught or has been taught to only be positive and learn through lifes experiences.

Most of the time we look at something that has gone wrong and say, I failed. Pinball looks at and say I have learned something.

If you ever have a chance, try Anthony Robbins tapes or CD's. Thoose who have just said, he sucks, are thoose who are negative people.

How many people will read this thread and the first thing that comes to there mind is Argos lost. Pinball sees it as learning experience to work from and gain.

What have you learned today?

There are 3 kinds of people in this world
1) Thoose who talk about doing
2) Thoose who think about doing
3) Thoose who are doing it

Which one are you?

Yeah, Pinball's a great guy. Ditto on his contagious positive outlook too.

Pinball has got to be one of the classiest human beings that I ever came across. Case in point, I frequent a restuarant in the downdown core and know the owner well. It just so happened one evening Pinball was there. I was introduced to him and expressed how much I enjoyed watching him during his career and that he was my nephew's favorite. This man then excused himself and left the restuarant. Upon his return(he went to his car in the parking lot), he had a team poster and signed it to give to my nephew. Now that is class personified!

Be the one who does it...

dguy, I had a similar experience with Warren Moon back when he was playing with Edmonton. My Dad and I were at a restaurant and he was there having dinner with a coupe of friends. We made a comment to our waiter and he passed it along to Warren. After he and his companions had finished eating he came over and sat and had a drink with us. I was, and still am, a huge Eskimos fan and it was an incredible high.

I also had the good fortune to get to speak with Paul Henderson for an hour or so at a corprate dinner function about four years ago and he is another person who just oozes positive energy. If you read his book he talks about the '72 series and sitting on the bench knowing he was going to score. He wasn't a star on that team by any account, yet he had the nerve to jump out onto the ice in the dying seconds (not a scheduled shift) and head for the net knowing the puck would be there for him. I know in hindsite he could be packaging a nice story but he always said that he wanted to make an impression in that tournament and that he did.

I've heard he is the same on the golf course and just wills his puts to drop...and they do.

Being an alumni of the argos,
I have been involved with pinball since his second year in TO. He is in real life , exactly as you see him on tv. A class act. No one knows half of what he does for the poor kids and the Kids suffering from incurable diseases-e.g. cancer in Toronto Hospitals.
And it is great when guys like him get the recognition they deserve. As he has said and I quote,"I am American By birth, and Canadian by choice." Hes a great Canadian and Ambassador for CFL football.
