I never said anything about a reporter sneaking into the actual facility (but I bet they would if given the chance). I said going in or going out. Let me dumb it down for you...

If after Ford said he was going into rehab, a reporter managed to snag a picture of him walking into a facility (which many have of celebrities...not inside but outside)...that pic would make every front page and home page of pretty much any media outlet that has been following Ford over the past years.

If he said which specific facility he was going to attend, you would have reporters camped out as close as they would legally be allowed to and buzzing the skies with choppers to get that photo that so many have been waiting to see for various reasons. ie as proof he is actually there, as a backdrop to the addiction stories, etc etc.

Are you too sheltered to realize that?
But why would it make the front page of every newspaper? Your Worship has stated that he is going to a rehab facility... Stating the obvious is not news...
Oh wait... there it is!!! It is obvious that he is NOT at a rehab facility... THAT is why said hypothetical photograph would be on the front page of every newspaper... cuz the scenario is near impossible.

What the fuck are you on?

As said before.. Rob Ford isn't the fucking pope.. He's the crack head fucking mayor from Toronto.. So NO they would NOT invest hundreds of thousands of dollars having helicopters hovering over a fucking rehab centre. They would NOT have reporters camped outside waiting to snap a shot of Rob Ford looking disheveled in a sweat suit (if they wanted this they could simply wait outside his home, or outside the gym after one of his "workouts").

It's decided... You're a troll.. And not a very good one.. Your arguments are nonsensical.

Again. Not a supporter...but........

You can bet that shills and paparazzi types WOULD camp outside. Choppers? Doubtful. But one hell of a lot of telephoto lenses.

His situation is unique. Can you ever remember this kind of attention for a Canadian Politician? I can't. The sharks are on the water for his blood. Don't underestimate how low the media will go. He sells papers and draws viewers.

I just want him gone and out of the spotlight. I want him treated with indifference. And at this point its actually his detractors that are the ones enabling the attention he receives, and by proxy takes away from the other REAL candidates.

But the stories, news feeds, and threads here continue. You are all becoming your own worst enemies. Because you are giving him what he wants. Free publicity.

What's really sad it that Rob Ford will run for mayor again and people will still vote for him.

Yeah I don't see how posting negatively on an escort review board is giving Ford "free publicity". He's a crack addict alcoholic misogynist racist homophobic fat fuck who makes terrible decisions, both personal and professional.
Maybe that appeals to some, but I don't think pointing out these characteristics over and over will help him get re-elected.

We should have a pool on how soon after Ford is back he relapses and goes on another bender.

And speaking of publicity - while Robbie is off drying out and his campaign has stalled, yesterday on the way to work at rush hour I saw 4 volunteers for Olivia Chow covering the corners of an intersection, interacting with pedestrians and handing out leaflets with info on her campaign. I expect that little scene was repeated all over the city, and will continue for the next 6 months. OTOH the only volunteers for Ford's campaign seem to be Doug and Joe Warmington.
And neither of them are credible.

My point exactly. The press are treating him more like Lindsay Lohan. Which is fine if you like that kind of "journalism". But to say that releasing his location WON'T result in the a media frenzy is pretty naïve considering the coverage up to now.

See the point?

True about a stalled campaign. Hopefully it continues. But is Chow getting any real press? Are any of them? That's the point.

I want him out. Amd I want to see Tory and Chow in a debate. With no Ford distraction. I think that will be a big tell after the fact.

Is talking about him on this board a big deal? Doubtful. I think the majority probably have their minds made up. But it is a comment on the reflection of the city at large of where the priorities are.

And it seems like People Magazine journalism is winning.

Trust Issues

Interesting article from Ed Keenan in The Grid

Trust issues
Even if Rob Ford gets his act together and turns his mayoral campaign into a comeback tour, it’s time for the city to deal him some tough love and end this destructive relationship.

In the days since Rob Ford announced that he was heading off to rehab—which followed a new wave of revelations of his alcohol- and drug-fuelled recklessness—there’s been speculation about what it means for Toronto’s future. Much of the talk on radio and in newspaper columns is centred on the question of whether Ford can actually get sober and stay that way. Presumably, such actions could pave the way for a comeback, which would make perfect sense as the next chapter in Mayor Ford’s biography.

But if we’re thinking about this situation in terms of what it means for the city—specifically, how we’re governed—rather than as a story about Ford himself, then I think that the mayor’s recovery is beside the point. Like anyone who’s had an addict in their life, and who’s been hurt by one, this city needs to focus on its own recovery. And after all that’s happened, our healing process can only really proceed without Ford in the picture.
Addicts are, by definition, self-destructive, but they’re also destructive, period. The pain and complication they inflict on those around them becomes a relentless central fact of life. Everything in a household—or a family, a group of friends, or a workplace—comes to revolve around managing an addict’s abuse: anticipating the next episode, living through relapses, processing the apologies and promises, and then starting all over again.
The people of Toronto might recognize this pattern in their relationship with the mayor. During the past year, virtually all subjects on the civic agenda have taken a back seat to the story of Ford’s struggle with his personal demons, or they’ve been viewed through the lens of his dramas. Even transit and public housing, two high-profile issues, have been debated on an almost personal level regarding Ford’s credibility and character. Recently, the entire election campaign has threatened to be a referendum on his personal conduct and whether it reflects on his management.

To ease his own pain, an addict needs to stop using the substances that have come to dominate his life. But for those close by, the only solution is often (though, of course, not always) to wish the person well in his sobriety and move on with their own lives. Sometimes the wounds are too deep, the bonds of trust too thoroughly shredded, the habits of suspicion and resentment and fear that have arisen in self-defence too ingrained for the slate to ever be clean.
It’s one of the puzzling patterns you see in addiction-recovery programs: Someone winds up getting divorced after they become clean and sober. It could be that in the clear light of sobriety the former addict is still abusive and dishonest, and now there’s no alcohol or other substance to blame for the behaviour. Or sometimes it seems that recovery itself has changed a person, and their old relationships no longer make sense. But often it’s simply that, in order for those who have been close to the addict to get the same kind of fresh start, they need to let the painful past recede into memory rather than living and struggling with its constant reminders.
I think that’s the case with Toronto and Rob Ford. Our political agenda has come to be so dominated by him and his problems that even if he suddenly claims, as he has before, to be a changed man—even if, in fact, he turns out to actually be a changed man—we will be unable to see him that way. As long as he’s around, we’ll continue to reflexively think about ourselves as characters in his ongoing story of relapse and recovery. Like those in relationships with addicts everywhere, we’ve become too used to viewing all of our issues as they relate to managing our troubled relationship with him.

It’s entirely possible that Ford can get his affairs in order and go on to have a healthy and productive life. It’s also possible for Toronto to get its own affairs in order and get a fresh start. But I don’t think the two things can happen together
I hope that Ford is able to turn the page and start a new chapter in his personal history. But I also hope that even if he does, the electorate will realize we need to turn the page on him and begin work on the next chapter of our own.

That's funny. Now that you've decided to vote for Tory, you need to see him in a debate to find out his campaign platform.
You're not alone in not knowing what Tory stands for or would do as mayor, but he shouldn't need the presence of Olivia Chow nor the absence of Rob Ford to help define him.
The question for the mayoralty race isn't "where is Ford" but "where is Tory" on the issues.

Time for John Tory to define himself with Rob Ford in rehab: Jameshttp://www.thestar.com/news/city_ha...ine_himself_with_rob_ford_in_rehab_james.html

Since he staged a hurried campaign launch for mayor of Toronto in February, John Tory has taken a slow ascent to public consciousness. Yet, there he is in the latest Forum Research poll sitting second among would-be voters, just six points behind front-runner Olivia Chow.
It’s not so much what Tory has done. In fact, the former Rogers executive has done too little to define himself to an anxious electorate. Rather, his rise in the polls is a product of the alternatives facing voters...

Some expected a more precipitous fall — maybe eight to 10 percentage points for Ford. But they forget that more than 80 per cent of Ford supporters say they have no second choice in the race for mayor.
If Tory is to overtake Chow, he must become a viable alternative to diehard Ford backers, especially as they bleed away, slowly, with each revelation about their guy.
Lorne Bozinoff of Forum Research says Tory stands to benefit the most if Ford does not return to the race. Ford supporters can’t bring themselves to going clear across the political spectrum to back Chow on the left, he says.
For example, in a speculative race with Ford out of the way, respondents to Forum’s poll are in a quandary. They picked Chow at 34 per cent, Tory at 32 per cent, with Stintz and Soknacki at 6 per cent each. In this scenario, 22 per cent — mostly Ford supporters — are undecided.
It is those voters that Tory would have to woo, and carefully, seeing they are emotionally invested in Ford to the point of being offended by harsh criticism of their candidate.
Tory is the least divisive of the candidates. He’s seen as a conciliator, a builder, someone to bridge the chasm between the suburbs and downtown. At least, those who know him see him that way. The rest want more. Meanwhile, Tory is many people’s second choice — someone who does not generate a sense of alienation or fear.

Tory supporters say he is a big tent candidate; a sensible Conservative. His detractors say his slow and methodical release of campaign platform — holding on to substantive announcements for later in the race — is keeping many from bedding down in the big tent.
The way they see it, a more forceful and forthright campaign — with guns trained at Chow and Ford — would have long established Tory as the one to sweep out Ford and bring in sensible, fiscally-responsible policies to city hall, without the drama. Instead, they say, Tory has opted to run from behind — looking for the right moment to make a move.

Marathon race that it is, from January 1 to October 27, a competitive campaign for mayor of Toronto will almost always encounter several turning points.
Ford’s decision to take a breather is the big one. Wrapped in scandal, tainted with allegations of crack use and behaviour unbecoming a mayor, a much larger date looms: his return; or failure to return. Is this the game changer? Ask us in September.
Tory may have to alter the pace of his campaign to take advantage of Ford’s absence. If Conservative voters see him as Ford without the circus, he can be poised to grab their vote. If left-leaning voters see him as socially progressive as well as fiscally responsible, he may be able to siphon votes from Chow — voters that polls show are already disposed to considering his candidacy.
But there are worrying trends.
For example, polling done by private firms that informs various campaigns shows that Tory’s slow start has hurt him. Even on files that he should dominate — the economy, looking after taxpayers’ money, managing city council — Tory trails Chow and Ford in support.
Voters just don’t know enough about his positions.
During this interregnum — when Ford no longer dominates the news cycle and the electorate is talking provincial politics — could Tory surge ahead?
It’s not the best of time, but it rarely is, when opportunity knocks.

Actually I want to see him take on Chow and what little of her Platform has been released. I don't think she is going to do well with her "grandmother who know what's best act". She is going to take a hard hit when she has to stand and explain herself.

No subways will hurt her. And when she flubs the Gardiner as I'm expecting she will be hurt more.
She will also have a difficult time convincing people she will be fiscally conservative. Bet on it.

Tory is smart to wait to see Who is in the Premier's chair before making promises about transit that will depend on who is there. I can wait until July for this.

It isn't just about defining Tory. It's also about defining Chow. Some how I don't think some swing voters will like what they see in her.

If he were in a rehab, they can deal with that, they have dealt with Lohan situations before.

However, it seems he is more likely staying with his sister or some such, given the sighting at Tim Horton's.

And life went on.

A Mayor isn't a nobody, especially not a Mayor who's both as media-hungry and as prone to public misbehaviour and easily disproved lies as this one.

If Ford Nation thinks failing to get your weight under 300 in spite of publicly promising you would somehow makes Ford not fat, they're easier to delude than even I imagined. He is fat, even if polite people don't say so unless they're pressed.

Don't like the coverage? Then stop feeding on it and amplifying it with your whining that he's not getting a fair shake. I don't remember a KFC photo, and wouldn't have known one existed without you, although I think I do remember someone publishing a photo of Miller's garbage bins.

If Rob really is in any real rehab, then there aren't going to be any photos for weeks and weeks, not until he comes out. Now would be a good time to focus attention on his enablers, his close colleagues and family, and the tame journalists who all must long have known Rob couldn't control himself and who even now continue to pretend all he needs is a teeny little bit of help to be right as rain. Everyone of them has real responsibility for the wreck they stood by and let him become.

Which is why he gets the coverage he does. Who else in our politics lies for a year about wrongdoing he absolutely knew he had done and that there was video evidence about? And the media was just supposed to ignore him? When they knew he was lying?

Sorry, but no one camps outside the office or home of the pol who's just behaving like the rest of us and doing his job in the ordinary way. Rob's not ever done an ordinary job, not even as a Councillor, and he assiduously courted and thrived on media attention to get from that office into his present one. Too bad he wasn't up to it, but it's too late now to ask that we stop being interested in the Mayor's latest lies or misdeeds.

You mean Edward Keenan, the guy who wrote a book about Ford? The guy who is looking to cash in with book sales? Alcoholic?
http://arts.nationalpost.com/2013/01/25/book-review-some-great-idea-by-edward-keenan/

Why doesn't he donate the proceeds of that book to charity like the Ford's have done with their salaries?

Interview:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...-rob-ford-has-good-intentions/article7886057/

Excerpts:

Re circus at City Hall..
So: bad for the city, good for you and me?

"Yeah."

Re drinking:
Is it true, as you say in the book, that you have been punched in the face in several different parts of Toronto?

"Yeah, by complete strangers, actually. I used to drink a lot."

Do your research. Consider the source.

Have you ever looked at CP24 and daily camp by the media outside his office? For what 2 years? And the regular outside his house? Ever see that outside another politicians house? Ever? I haven't.
Seriously..? This argument again? This was dealt with years ago. City Hall reporters have to camp out in front of his house and his office because he won't ever speak to the press about ANYTHING. He also won't ever release his schedule to let them know where they CAN find him later on in the day.

If you're a city hall reporter and Rob Ford does something like waltz into work and declare "I have more than enough to eat at home" and you AREN'T there, then your ass is as good as fired... So you camp out...

And as far as "the regular at his house".. That's just horseshit.. The man lives on Edenbridge.. I drive by his house every few days as it's part of a shortcut I like to take sometimes on my way to or from work.. Unless there's a story like "Mayor Rob Ford caught smoking crack.... Again". Then there isn't a single reporter out there..

All this whining about him being hounded is just fucking bullshit.. He's hounded when he's a moronic asshole and people want to get that particular story... They don't camp out in front of his house because he's about to release a budget.. They camp out when it turns out that his good buddy and occasional driver is arrested for dealing drugs shortly after he admits to DOING drugs.

The ONLY reason why anybody would camp out in front of his rehab centre is because he didn't tell ANYBODY where he was going, it appears he only went because he was caught (AGAIN), and he has a major history of lying through his teeth.. So yeah.. It's a pretty big deal to be able to confirm that the world's most famous crack head (who also happens to be our mayor) is ACTUALLY IN REHAB. He could stop all the attention by simply telling everybody where he is, and having the staff at the centre confirm it..

Boober seems to think that the reason he won't tell people where he is, is BECAUSE they'll show up.. But he's ignoring the fact that the only fucking reason anybody is looking for him, is because he won't fucking confirm where he is (leaving everybody to speculate whether or not he's IN rehab).
