We'll this saturday is a day boxing fans have been waiting for ever since this fight was rescheduled. I'm just curious if there are any other real boxing fans (watch more than just Tyson fights) on here who are looking forward to this fight as much as I am.

I personally think Oscar will win by wide UD or late TKO stoppage. We're basically talking about a great boxer vs a good boxer. Oscar is just too quick and has too much big fight expierience for Fernando to deal with. Just as Trinidad proved during his fight with Vargas how hard it is to miss Fernando with his left hook, which just happens to be Oscar's best punch. Vargas would rather kill himself than lose to Oscar. Which is one of the reasons why this fight is so intriguing. Oscar my not be a heavy handed puncher at junior middleweight, but it's not like he's all of a sudden turned into Pernell Whittaker or Paul Spadafora. His punches still carry enough sting to hurt you. Vargas got dropped by Wilfredo Rivera in the first round of his first fight back after losing to Trinidad, Rivera is by no means a big puncher.Proving that with Oscar's accuracy he can no doubt take Fernando out if the oppourtunity presents itself. I believe that Oscar will for the most part outbox Vargas the same way he did Trinidad and come the 10thor 11th round when Fernando starts going for the KO Oscar will take advantage of Vargas's spotty defense and stop him.

PS If Oscar strays from his usual ways and tries to KO Vargas early this could be a completely different fight

I was never a big boxing fan till a friend of mine had a ringside table for the Billy "the kid" Irwin fight at the Internatonal plaza hotel a few years back.I also saw Kirk Johnson fight that night to,I hear he is on his way to being a top contender for the heavy weight championship, think he's the first canadian since George Chuvallo??.
Watching it on t.v is nothing compared to seeing it live!,especially ringside seats, really enjoyed it !

I'll be watching the fight Sat night!;)

I've never gotten big into boxing because almost every match I've seen has been a huge disapointment. the one exception to that was tirinidad-vargas. Vargas may not be able to take del-lahoya but any fight with him in it is worth seeing at a bar IMO, he'll give it his all and not take the cheap way out like every other fight I've seen.

I'm still pissed off at Oscar for dancing around, avoiding Trinidad, thinking he had the fight in the bag.
Pretty boy Oscar has talent but lacks the killer instinct.
Isn't Vargas pretty much washed up, not that he was ever much anyway?
I'd like to see Roy Jones Jr. move up to heavyweight and take a shot at Lennox Lewis, not Ruiz who is a stiff.

Mailbook,

Roy Jones vs Lennox is far too great of a physical mismatch. There is a rumour going around that Roy will fight John Ruiz on Dec 7 for Ruiz's WBA heavyweight title. The reason he wants to fight Ruiz is beacuse Jones knows Ruiz is the only champ at heavyweight he has a real shot at beating. Lennox Lewis and Wladamir Klitcshko are just simply too big and would blast Jones out with relative ease.

Longfirmlegs,

The female fights are pathetic. There are only a handful of female boxer who actually have some skill. Most female fights are just two butch's swinging at each other. There's zero defense, they dont know how to cut off the ring, cant throw a proper hook, etc. Lucia Ryker is the only female boxer I have seen who has some skill. No offense longfirmlegs but you sound exactly like most female boxing fans, you seem to like Oscar for his looks rather than his boxing ability. Do you even know what weight class Oscar began fighting as a pro at?

PS Oscar's nickname is "The Golden Boy". "Pretty Boy" is the nickname of the WBC Lightweight Champion Floyd Mayweather.

LFL,

When I said fights I was referring to boxing fights. Yes female "BOXING" is for the most part pathetic. How else can you describe Mia St John? She gets in the ring and just starts swinging, she has no defense or technique whatsoever. Yet she's considered one of the top female boxers. I really hope Mia steps in the ring with the one skilled female boser I know of,Lucia Ryker. I'd love to see Ryker break this bimbo's jaw and send her out of the sport.Outside of Ryker and maybe a few others, female boxing is basically like a carnival side show.Dont give me that "it's a typical male response", it's just simply true plain and simple.

I'm saying Oscar for this one, but I was more certain before I saw the promo interview that they did on the night of the Roy Jones fight. I KNOW those interviews are not reliable indicators of anything, but there was a hunger in Vargas' eyes that looked like Oscar was going to have his work cut out for him. I'm really looking forward to this one.

As a side note...I hope R.J. stops carrying himself with these easy fights and steps with someone of note SOON. He's stated he wants to get to the magic number 50, but I hate the way he's doing it. Though he's my favourite current boxer, to be honest I would have liked to see him lose or get hurt against Woods who I thought put up a brave effort.

Luckyjackson,

One way or another Roy's next fight will be a fairly tough one. Seeing as Roy has just been fightng his mandatory challengers as of late, it's not really his faul the sanctioning bodies rank these guys number 1.Regardless his next mandatory is Antonio Tarver who seems to be biggest chalenge at Light Heavyweight, although I'm sure Roy will dispose of Tarver with ease. Tarver is just too much of a stationary target and he seems to like blocking punches with his. Roy should stop him fairly early.

Vargus really hates del la Hoya. This may help him b\c del la Hoya is a better boxer technically. A year ago I would have taken Vargus to win, but after the way he lost to Trinidad, I'm not so sure. IMHO Pernell Whittiker in his prime would easily beat either of these two! Should be a great fight-better then any Tyson fight.

Whitaker was one of the best pure boxers the sport has ever seen. It was brutal how he got shafted against Julio Ceaser Chavez, Whitaker clearly outboxed Chavez that night. I also think Whitaker did enough to pull out a decision against Oscar when the two fought.

Did I call it or did I call it. What a great tactical boxing match. Oscar's superior boxing skills won out in the end. during the 6th and 7th round you could see Oscar really starting to find his range and lay the ground work for the 11th round stoppage.

Kudos to Oscar, this is the best I have seen him in a long time. Mayweather really seems to have had a positive influence on Oscar. The way he was slipping punches, rolling his shoulders into his chin, blocking punches with his hands was great, Mayweather really sems to be turning Oscar into a bigger version of his son "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather.

I was a little disappointed in Fernando's post fight behaviour. I thought Fernando would be a big enough man to at least congratulate Oscar. Who knows where Fernando goes from here.

Hopefully this sets up a rematch with "Sugar" Shane Mosley. I still see Shane having too much speed and endurance for Oscar, although with his new found defense I would'int be surprised to see Oscar catch Shane and expolit his somewhat suspect defense and stop him.

La ou le plaisir n'a pas de limite...
Vargas had nor the heart not the skill to win that fight. Vargas not staying to comment on the fight pissed me off extremely. He talked the talk for a long time, then got his payday and rang out of the ring. So much for the great conditioning he was in, 7th round he could barely raise his arms.

Congrats to Oscar

He obviously had the heart to win. If you've followed his career you would know that. Watch his fight against Trinidad and tell me he does'int have heart. The reason Fernando lost is because he was simply in against a better fighter. If you ranked boxers solely on heart Vargas would have to be considered right up there with Arturo Gatti, Micky Ward and Vinny Pazienza for the most heart. Vargas wanted this fight more than anything in the world,it was his lack of skill not his heart that cost him.

Somebody with heart would not have ran out of the ring like a little pussy.

Note: No disrespect to little pussies.

You're confusing heart with respect. It is painfully obvious the Fernando Vargas has tons of heart. If he did'int have heart he would'int have gotten up after that first punishing left hook from Trinidad in the first round and go on to last almost the full 12 rounds. He would'int have gotten up after Oscar almost took his head off mid way through the 11th. Believe me, Vargas has heart and is by no means a pussy. It his lack of respect that disappointed you,not his heart.

EXACTLY h dog.I dont understand how you can call a guy a pussy who fights his guts out till he literally cant stand up. If anything Vargas has too much heart for his own good.

Hdog, unless I have mistaken your gender somehow I don't think you have any ovaries to bet! :)

I do have to add that out of the fights that I have seen, which isn't many, It was an awesome fight and I am glad that pompus idiot Vargas lost.

In the pre fight interviews he was just too high on himself. His comments were rediculous and unnecessary. While Vargas is a pro fighter, he is still just a kid in the whole realm of things and I think he has a lot to learn about respect and good sportsmanship.
