The triage nurses should get paid whatever the fuck they ask for. It's their job to weed through the non-sense and sort the cases. I'm alive because of an alert triage nurse who deciphered what I was saying and got me the help I needed in MINUTES!

Hospitals have a triage system, the non emergent cases are made to wait for hrs after a vitals checkup.
@Jami77 so you read her charts and with your yrs of medical experience knew it was due to the extra weight... maybe you should have corrected your medical colleague at that point

Yup - I agree - I'm no medical doctor and have no clue what was on her charts... and Ive no clue what was in her admission notes - just calling out the obvious. Even if you have an auto-immune doesnt it make sense to lose the weight too...

Like if I went in to the garage with my truck and was complaining - "man it squeaks and grinds while Im towing my RV up these hills..and it doesnt chage gear properly." and the mechanic says "well we took a quick look and you got an oil leak so we gotta fix that and then you need an oil change - and thats the main thing thats wrong - but while we get that sorted out how bout you stop carting about all that weight - its only gonna make it worse...

and also why was she in the emerg and not at a walk in?

Thats the main reason our hospitals are full because people dont use the walk ins or their own docs...

Our hospitals, sadly & unfortunately, have ALWAYS been inundated with stupid people going there because they have a hang nail or a headache because "they ran into a wall". Instead of taking care of it themselves they mess up the hospitals by going to emerg for no good reason other than getting an aspirin & being told to go home and put an ice pack on it. Unfortunately, it's only gotten worse over the past 35-40+ years as our population has skyrocketed (and the number of doctors/nurses has dropped in part because of boomers retiring and Covid) and people - for reasons unknown - can't seem to use common sense for simple aches & pains.

You would think the older people get they would know their bodies well enough, and be smart enough, to know when something is seriously wrong.
But nooooo, lets go to the ER wait hours for treatment then bitch about the wait time.

People are going in there for fever and cough now...meanwhile an injury, dislocated knee or shoulder are taking a while because the line up is ridiculous....

I guess you haven't been to an ER room lately. People with a fever and cough go to the back of the line. More serious cases go to the front of the line.

I think they are talking about the fact that people will go to ERs with minor sickness if not being completely fine
