Wow dude and have you read this little piece of information from your link?

today they (rogers) have announced a brand new data plan for a limited time. iPhone users who sign up between July 11th to the end of August will be able to get a 6GB for $30 data plan!
So in other words, it's $30/month for the morons who get the data plan but then in 3 months they will have to drop their pants and take it from behind from the Rogers serial rapist

But then you're arguing a whole new ballgame, which is why does Canada (or North-America) have higher charges than Europe????!!!!!!!!

Now thats a very good argument and question indeed, but it doesnt apply to the topic of this thread!

Fine Canucklehead, but a lot of people wanna know why Canadians pay so many charges compared to some Americans.

There has to be some explanation. :)

Man are you dumb. The 3 year rate is $30 for 6Gb. The time limit is for signing. The price does not change for the term.

Are you just trolling? I think you are. If you don't like Rogers, go to their competitors, but you're not going to convince me they're 'serial rapists'. It's just business. Get over your indignation.

How is that a rip-off, thats only about $150 a month
I can't remember the last time my cell phone bill was that low, or when I paid it..... many of these are going to people who use them for work and won't pay the network fees... they're on our corporate approved list....

Of all the people I know who have a Blackberry, not one pays the bill - they are all paid by their companies.

Personally, I get along fine with my simple Motorola flip phone. iphone looks cool and all, but I wouldn't use the features, not interested in Rogers, and it isn't value for the money for me (since I pay my own cell bill).

If people want to spend huge amounts on iphones, they can go ahead and do so. If the plans were $15 a month, I'd probably get one too. At the current rates, not interested. If the rates were $15 a month with no contract, Rogers would sell so many they would still make big bucks on sheer volume of monthly fees coming in.

Yes, but with so many morons and suckers like Dr69 eagerly paying these exorbitant date plan prices Rogers would be stupid to lower them.

Anyways, just today I saw a wristwatch that is a cellphone, yes, a watch with a cellphone incorporated, it's light, it has blue-tooth, video-playing capabilities and is also an MP3 player. It costs $299, this is way cooler than the iPhone and more practical.

I'm not blaming Apple for this, I'm blaming Rogers. In Japan there's a more sophisticated wire-less internet service for phones such as the iPhone and it costs only $15 a month with unlimited phone internet use.
...orders of magnitude more subscribers, and orders of magnitude less geography to cover.

Wow man, what a rip-off considering that the iPhone's data flow costs the same to Rogers as the one you get for unlimited internet access on your home PC, otherwise they are charging you 1,000% for the same internet traffic.
..Rogers provides you internet access over an existing and already amortized network. In order for you to use your 3G iPhone, Rogers had to make a investment in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Yes, Rogers is profitable. That is the point of running a business. Yes, I think the Canadian wireless operators rip off Canadian subscribers. Here is hoping the recent auction will address some of that.

But there is NO WAY Rogers could build out a nationwide 3G network and then give you unlimited access to it for 15/month per subscriber and remain profitable.

How do you figure? Do you honestly think that a wireless 3G network doesn't cost anyting to install, maintain and upgrade?

The coax cable that delivers Rogers Internet service has been installed for decades, and is mostly amortized, but even that needs to be maintained and repaired. But the delivery system for wireless products is still being purchased, installed, and therefore not yet paid for. How do you suggest they cover those costs.

If it were too expensive, people wouldn't pay it, you know. It's called a free-market economy, and I can choose not to have a cell phone, or new car, or anything. But amazingly, people DO pay the fees associated with this service. It must be worth it to them!! So bitching about prices is a giant waste of time.

I bet you're one of those 1-day gas boycott idiots too.
...you beat me to it. I'm guessing you are an "insider" as well...

In addition, my PC is a fuck of a lot more complicated than any router or switch that they use and it has been running almost constantly for 5 yrs. So for my initial $400.00 investment maintainence has been zip and that works out to be about $6.00 a month.....amortize that into the $120K per year they earn as income.....
..it isn't not even close. Not even in the same ballpark.

The network infrastructure required to run a multi million subscriber network costs HUNDREDS of millions of dollars, and because you'd bitch like a scalded cat every time it went down, has to be orders of magnitude more reliable (and thus more expensive and complex) than any piece of network gear you have likely put your hands on in your life. If your internet went down with the frequency that your PC does, Rogers would be out of business.

Stick to GC work dude...

Wow, are you telling me that you actually enjoy paying for overpriced sub-par service? Corporations love nitwits like you. In Japan and Sweden I can get cellphone internet 8 times faster than Rogers fastest plan for $15 a month.

You can pay for ALL of that just by charging people $10 a month, not $150 a month. Where are your brains Rubmeister, don't believe everything a Rogers phamplet tells you.

Cellphone towers are automated and take control of all incoming and outgoing calls, there are almost no humans to pay to make them work. How many times does a walkie-talkie breaks down? Never, that's how cellphone towers work, like a walki-talkie.

...you have no idea what you are talking about....

tboy is a funny dude, his comeback is to attack other people's grammar while discussing technology. His head must be full of sOndra bullock.

adding to mlam's, it also take multi-million to setup the 4G (LTE) network to remain ahead of the competition.
