I looking for advise or tips on any secrets on Ontario emissions testing. This would be the first time my Corvette's new motor would be tested.

I've done as much research as possible for my 406 Stroker.

- I have reconnected all the smog equipment
- Cat
- EGR
- Air pump
- Changed the oil
- Reduced fuel pressure (49 to 38 psi)
- Reinstalled original prom

I also understand there are a lot of myths associated. Heard stories of raw alcohol being added to the fuel to lean it out even further. I'm nervous as heck about it's passing, and am hoping someone might be able to help me.

Thanks.

Thanks guys.

It's a highly modded Lingenfelter engine in a 90 Vette. Unfortunately, I've only found 2 people in Ontario that can tune this set up, and most Yanks think that our testing is all a joke.

Gas cap is good. Proven to 49 psi. Pipes are all good. Hooker super comps into a Random tech cat.

I was under the asumption I would be able to be tested as a hot rod exemption, not be tested as specs for my specific year, make and model.

You can do the same as I did on my girlfriends Stroker:

- I have inspected all the equipment
- cat
- pipes
- greased the nips
- Changed the lube oil
- Reduced stroke pressure by 10 psi
- Installed new condom
- Scanned her OBD-II codes digitally and orally

I do add some raw alcohol into her intake plenum, as it eases the nervousness and rough idling. Now hers is about 25 years old, so increase the alcohol a tad if older.

So....a little alcohol and she's good to go??

Specific ratio's? How much to add to how much gas ratio? Please.

Take it in for a test. ($40) It passes, you're done.
It fails you think about it. You will know what to fix.
They aren't going to impound your car.

Casey, that was pretty cute. ;)

Cool....but it's set up to be a show car. Totally emaculate, and I don't want everybody "playing" with it.

I've been forwarded a PM that ground level testing would be wise. Can anybody else recommend it?

The alcohol/gas mixture depends on the reading on the Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control. If the Manifold Absolute Pressure has been excessive (beans), then a high mixture of alcohol will trick the Injector Circuit into a lean mixture, lessening emissions.

Well, Okee Dokeyee....LOL

Perhaps you could break it down a little bit. A handful of this, a teaspoon of that....LOL

Mine being a speed density system, I relocated my MAT. But for testing, I have hooked it up to the original set up. My MAP is completely stock and unaltered. So, I am kinda lost with the last bit of advise.

I would take the car in with no changes and see if it passes. If it fails, you can tell what to fix by the readings. Most Lingenfelter mods are street legal and do not affect emissions anyway.

Well my friend, you have a PM.

Service fee's don't bother me at all. But being exposed to some of the worst mechanics/tuners Ontario has to offer, does. Even N. Agestino is gone, and with a 2.5" center ground clearance, I am careful as to where the car goes, and end up doing it all myself. Hence the beauty of an open information forum. Thanks.

Buying gas with methonal is ok for winter and displacing water in gas. It burns hotter, but is not as clean (particle)as straight gasoline, and has been known to clog fuel system with byproducts from the refining process of geting alcohol from corn. UPI/FS gas bars(the original CO-OP) have been known for selling dirtier gas.

Canadian Tire sells a fuel additive that is "guaranteed" to make your car pass emissions. I know some people that have used it and it works.

The easiest way to get the alcohol into the system is to run about 2 tanks of Sunoco 94 octane through the car prior to testing. Sunoco gasoline contains ethanol (I think up to 10%).

casey has it right, test it, then see where the issues are. No sense in making all the changes when it ran clean.

I've had a few highly moded high comp. motors with exotic carbs and valvetrains pass.

You'll know what needs changed by the readings. If you know a guy that can tune the car to run clean the first 15 minutes you're laughing. But being a well maintained car it should pass anyhow if the emmisions are all nearly new.
