As you may guess from the subject line, I'm pretty "P"d off about the recent price increase at the Palace East; up by $1/bottle. That's getting pretty close to 20%. I invite potential patrons (see, I just couldn't stop myself) to join me in boycotting this rip-off club for at least a period of one month. If you MUST go, let them know that while their prices may be up 20%, your consumption is down 50%. I wonder if the owners can figure out they are loosing, not winning bucks.

I felt that it was necessary to take action to try to prevent this rip-off from spreading to other SC's. I sympathize with the staff and the dancers for any difficulties a boycott might cause. However, the root cause is the greed of the owner(s).

Natural market forces will inevitably come to play, at the end its still supply and demand and thats the way it should irregardless of any personal agenda...
Kiarra, thank you for your notice, I do agree with you that $6 a beer is crazy like $20+ dollar a dance. I guess those who like strip joints will still go & pay, like those of us who drive, when they hike up the price of gas using lame excuses like black out and what not...we still drive and pay!

The old price was $5.50
The new price is now $6.50
The increase/gouge is $1.00
And yes, the increase is not QUITE 20% (but pretty close)

Costs Rising?
With all due respect to "The original veteran", I can't imagine that ALL their costs are ALL rising 20%. Also, let's not overlook two important sources of income they have:
1) Each dancer pays $10 cash direct to the club the first time they use the VIP area each day. That's in addition to the VIP entrance fee the customer pays.
2) Any dancer who freelances also pays a healthy cash fee to the club each day just to be allowed in.
And what about the "fines" the girls must pay if they are late arriving when they are on schedule.
I wonder whether all this cash really gets declared. Any thoughts?

As unpopular as it may be I think I have to agree with Sheik on this..
Costs for running a business increase and it's hard to pass that cost on to the customer (do you blame them - look at this post)but sometimes it has to be done. I'm not just talking the cost of beer but all of the fixed costs of running the business.
Also Durham doesn't have an abundance of strip clubs esp. w/ Dynasty closing down. PE is the only club worth going to in Durham imho and I'll trade the $1 for a clean bathroom, stylish and generally clean club and properly paid staff.
With the patronage at all clubs going down and the hit the entire entertainment industry is taking I don't know if boycotting Durhams last worthwhile SC is a good idea.
I don't drink more than 2 drinks anyway - so $2 is not much. Until we can look at their financials we can't know why they hiked the price, but it seems reasonable to me operating costs have risen and this is a way to offset them.

It is the only thing close to Toronto or the strip.
What are the the other avenues in this area? Its pretty much it! and until they come up with somethig better ,what are we going to do my choice is>>>>>>>> drink import at least your trying something new.
