Senators in Canada are the biggest con artists ever!! What a bunch of horse shit they are and all on the backs of tax paying Canadians. I vote to abolish the Senator role completely! What the fuck do they do anyways? About the only person who seems to being doing a good job is good ole Frank Mahovlich.

This tells me you don't walk through the P&IA forum much. Painting all Senators with the same brush as these for is really nutts/childish/ignorant/narrow minded( you choose). Feel free to peruse the relevant threads and then make this comment.

Um. Do time for what. She placed expenses in for approval. They were approved. The Senate has after the fact decided they shouldn't have been. She is paying the money back. She did nothing illegal, nothing sneaky or underhanded.

Try to actually read up on things.....

Thanks for giving her version of events, as scripted by her lawyers.

Another view might be that she submitted improper expenses, which were approved by administrators on the basis ofbeing properly receipted. She is now agreeing to rely them because she got caught.

If she knew the expenses were improper, what she did was fraud.

So let me get this straight. She is supposed to know exactly what expenses are good.....and the accountants in charge of approving them are not? If the admin had a clue they woulld have caught these things the first time, corrected her, and a lot would not have been charged in the future. Instead they come back over a year later with the correction.
That's not scripted....that's the facts.

As for fraud. Obviously you've never had to deal will executives expensing things. They send the bills in in every walk of life. And get approved by the bean counters right away or turned down. Not a year later. There was no fast one here. No hiding. Just administrators who didn't know what they were doing. Its their job to know. Not hers.

Yes, and she knowingly committed these various frauds many times.
What's also terrible is that the other senators don't seem to mind and are not interested in forcing her out, so they are all corrupt and in on the scam. Anyone else who conned their employer in this manner would be fired, possibly with criminal charges laid.
It seems that all she has to do is pay back some of the money she embezzled and we are stuck paying her salary and fat pension.

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/...viewing_report_on_pamela_wallin_expenses.html
"Sources familiar with the Deloitte review said earlier Monday the report will detail travel expenses — such as flights and taxis — that Wallin expensed to taxpayers while she was travelling on business unrelated to her Senate duties, including activities related to the boards of directors she used to sit on, her time as chancellor of the University of Guelph and one instance of fundraising for the Conservative party."

Wallin knew very well that she was committing fraud. And her 'ignorance' defense doesn't work because it reinforces that she is incompetent for the job of deciding on legislation and thus should be fired.

It's awful that two famous and respected journalists have fucked the public who used to adore them.

The Senate is the voice of second* thought or opinion on legislative matters. However, maybe they should be elected just like any other public official.

IMO plenty of pukes will use Wallin, Duffy, Brazeau and Harb as an excuse to abolish the Senate or create an elected circus senate, when one never pays attention to the fact that 3/4 of these embroiled in controversy are Conservative senators appointed by Harper. So what's his agenda? Why is he not taking more flak for not having the judgement to appoint honest people? Or is that Senate appointment a reward for good behaviour? What role do members of the press have in getting people elected or moulding opinions? The electability or lack of electability is not the problem, as we elect buffoons all the time.

If you blame Harper for his appointments, then lack of electability may in fact be the problem. To tell you the truth, I don't think anybody would've questioned Harper's appointments at the outset because those chosen had good if not impeccable reputations.

We can go back into time and complain about patronage appointments by Trudeau or under John Turner's reign, so to stop the perception of patronage bias, there should be elections for the Senate.

And Harb, the Liberal, who owes the most should not go under the radar either. Oh I know, some say he is fighting it. So is Duffy. They are ALL overcharging!
