I was just in the Whitby Walmart and saw some. Interestingly, they were in the craft section so maybe a little hard to find.

If going to the USA, there is a Welcome Centre on the main highways as you enter each state. They have plenty of free maps there.
I believe the Ontario Welcome Centres have the same.
As others have said, CAA still has maps.
I have a friend who just last week had a Trip-Tik (CAA) prepared for his trip.

Unless it has changed recently, in Quebec they charge. It isn't much but still.
I would guess some provinces and states charge and others don't
When I was 10 and we did the coast to coast thing, I collected maps from every province we went to. If I was ever to go drive about again I'd do the same thing.

Bit of a map nerd here too.

Have all Ontario Transportation Series Maps - a series of 8 that show highways and regional roads, and even the original county lot survey fabric ( last part as very useful in contacting Hydro One for new power services up in Northern Ontario for traffic lights and highway intersection lighting from my day job.)

Then a scan on CD of every topographical map for the province at 1:20000 scale with contours. Ended up much cheaper than individual sheet maps ( which I have a lot of too). Used in planning when we undertake a back country canoe trip.

Yes, Map Art is the best domestic road map producer of physical maps.
I still have their Golden Horseshoe Plus map book in the car trunk next to the spare tire as a back up for when the GPS pukes.

My Ottawa map is falling apart. Tough to find them at gas stations.
CAA sounds like a plan.

Thanks for the tip! Walmart had 'em. It was one of those basket displays at the end of the aisle in the office supply section. They had a fairly decent selection and looked like a lot had already been purchased so Walmart is a good choice.
