This has happened twice to me in the last couple of weeks. I find a spot, I’m about to pull into it and someone from the opposite lane pulls into the spot and then drives ahead into the spot I’m about to go into instead of stopping and using the spot in their lane way.

I get doing this, but at least I have the common courtesy to make sure no one was about to pull into the second spot and if I see someone, I just back up into the original spot in my laneway. Like WTF? How hard is it to just look or back up? And when I honk and indicate I am about to pull into that spot, I get stupid looks like “sorry but what can I do now?” You can back the fuck up into your original spot. Now I have to drive around to the next laneway and park behind you.

Arg…. My rant for the day.

The other parking annoyance I have is people walking in the middle of the laneway to get to their car, move the fuck over. I don’t even have the patience now. I just honk at them.

Or people who see you backing out of stop and still walk behind your car.

With this are people who back into a spot at the grocery store. Then when they return stand in the empty spot beside it to unload groceries into the car.

But ya pulling through is dangerous as well. I had words with one dude that did this to me in the lot and then in the grocery store when he mouthed off to my SO when I was in another aisle.

Second round he backed the fuck up. Closest I came in awhile to popping someone.

Had it happen to me once. Still boiling over it. Ugly Karen ran through her parking place to steal mine. I had to hit the brakes and throw my car in reverse to avoid a collision. With her. Hit a brand new SUV while trying to get out of her way. Her son got out of the car and walked towards me pointing at his chin, yelling "hit me".
The women in the SUV went all pms on me. I gave them my drivers license , phone number and insurance information by letting them take pics. They wouldn't reciprocate. Luckily an RCMP car rolled up. I explained what happened. If there had been no witnesses and I had a crow bar, I would have resolved my problem with the Karen who started the whole thing. She just rolled up her window and ignored the whole incident by locking eyes on her phone.

There are people who swear by backing up. It is safer, it is fast to get out of something happens, bla, blah , blah.

It may have been safer back in the day but we have reverse cameras now. We don't need to back in anymore.

OMG...I was thinking of this today going to the grocery store. I feel your pain. When you're a sharp dialed in driver you quickly notice the stupidity on todays roads. People have ZERO situation awareness. Has anyone noticed when people cross a street on a green light they fail to look both ways?

All of this...and this, too: You see someone get in their car in a parallel parking spot so you pull a car length or so behind them to "reserve" the spot. And then... the person just sits there, usually scrolling on their "cocaine" device even though they know you are waiting for them to vacate the space. You may even pull up beside them to ask if they're leaving instead of waiting for someone else to get in their car, pull back again, and still wait. And wait. This should be be like opening and holding doors for someone with an armful of packages or using a walker (or a wearing short skirt): get in your car and pull away so someone else can have the space. Courtesy, where art thou?

My personal parking pet peeve is when I'm planning to parallel park, signal my intention, slow down, line up with the car ahead of the spot, and the bozo behind me doesn't stop until they're a few feet from my bumper, thereby making it impossible to complete my parallel park, leaving me no option but to circle the block. I mean, what did you think I was doing? Turning into a solid store front? Pay attention.

A number of industrial and construction workplaces mandate backing into parking spots. These types of rules are invariably written in blood. People on the work site have been killed from cars or trucks backing into them. Be careful out there.

Most of those vehicle don't have back up cameras though.

The guy in the oversized pick up truck at his local Costco has one. The soccer mom in her mini van has one. Regular drivers don't need to back into spaces any more.

Besides it helps when you have asshole like my ex who would purposely park so close to a backed in vehicle they couldn't open the lift gate. Usually when it was a woman because he was an alpha male prick.

Which, if you're honest, is what attracted you to him in the first place.

No. Not at all. It wasn't until much later in the relationship his true colours came out. He became completely abusive.

I thought he was a good man, hard working, family man, good father.

I'm not one of those attracted to bad boy types. Sorry. You have the wrong girl.

Cameras or not, backing in is the safest way. I've done this for decades, when I drove a car, suv and now a truck. I also park away from everyone else, as people don't know how to park. Pulling out of my spot is easier, with no issues with dolts in parking lots staring at their phones, oblivious to everything around them, hazards included.

People who are oblivious are still oblivious regardless of whether you are backing out or pulling straight out. Sorry but that point just doesn't fly. LOL.

You prefer to pull out and that is fine for you but the idea that it is safest is no longer an issue with back up cameras. Sorry but it is just not.
