This pretty much just makes it official. It was a pain in the ass to try to cross into the US the last few years with just a drivers lic. Man those US immigration officers can be rather draconian.

Big deal, if I fly to Canada I have to have a passport, why should driving be any different......

We are just reaping the bitter legacy left us by Dubya and Darth Cheney policies.
Those two did much damage to the USA and world and now people are forced to pay the price for their stupidity with tighter border security to protect the USA from the enemies Dubya and Darth Cheney created who seek revenge for what Dubya and Darth Cheney have done the last 8 years!....

If you were traveling between france and England or Germany you would either need a passport or an EU id card. This is just the way of things today.
