Photo Radar kiosks getting quite the beat down in the GTA
Everything from being deliberately driven over, to outright theft of the camera units

One location in Brampton has been vandalized twice already since start of school year

If you don't speed in school zones then it will be other idiots paying the tax.

Seems like a double win, an incentive to keep kids safe and other people paying to keep my property taxes down.

When schools are closed there are no kids to save. When for twelve hours a day (7-7) there are no kids to save. When it's the middle of the night there are no kids to save. On all weekends there are no kids to save. Other than that, I guess you're right.

The title is deceiving. I was hoping to read about cameras being vandalized.

In school zones?
Not sure if it's changed but I recall that speed limits are reduced during school hours in school zones, but return to normal afterwards. Maybe OP is also upset about speed limit reductions in highway construction zones.

What I find the worst about these ones is they give no leeway for speedometer error even 1 or 2 KPH over will get you a ticket which is rediculous. I am fully in favor of nailing people that speed through school zones in excess of 10 KPH over and massive fines if they are 50 KPH over

Until I see an actual ticket for someone exceeding the limit by 1 or 2 km/h, I bet the threshold is set to 10 or 11 over. Since the registered owner of the vehicle gets the ticket and there's no points or risk of an insurance premium increase, it's just a tax. No different than getting a parking ticket.

If certain cameras are "catching" thousands of speeders, I'll bet the speed limit is too low based on the surroundings. Meaning, it's probably in a wide open area, multi-lanes, no parking, sidewalks and buildings (schools) are set way back from the road and there's no intersections, pedestrian crossovers, traffic lights or stop signs nearby.

What make more sense and is what I've seen in many US states, they reduce the speed in school zones and increase fines during school hours. They typically have signage and flashing amber lights to warn drivers.

Use the WAZE app. It warns you of all the red light and speed cameras in the city.

Too many times dropping my kid off at school, idiots would plow through school zone at excessive speed. It's not hard to go easy for a block. You might save some kid in exchange for adding 5 secs to your time.

What did they think was gonna happen??
If the City was smart they would have put these things high up on hydro or street lamp poles

Can replace a dozen times and they’ll still pay for themselves in Brampton

Automated speed cameras won't slow those assholes down. Putting a cop with radar to actually pull people over for speeding in school zones, is a far more effective deterrent. The problem is, cop prefer to set up in "fishing holes" where they can write the highest number of tickets per hour. The more tickets they write, the more people go to court which translates into more money the cops make. It has nothing to do with safety.

As I said there are two benefits. Even when school is closed, you'll still be keeping my property taxes down.
