I think its a great show...but one question I've always had is what happens with insurance after?? I doubt MTV would pay for insurance because the people's cars who get pimped more than likely cannot afford it. Just curious to know that would work...one solution: one of the cars from the 1st season was apparently put on eBay, dont know how much it went for though.

You’re also way more likely to get pulled over for doing nothing when driving a flashy as hell pimped out of this world car that glows in the dark from a mile away!

I'm not really feeling this show ... they fix up the crappiest cars and put stupid things in them ... who really needs a karaoke machine in their truck ... I'll give respect to west coast customs cause they do a great job but there's something about putting 20 inch rims on an oldsmobile that just isn't right ... plus I don't think I've ever seen them do anything to the engine ... so what's the point in giving a mitsubishi Mirage an ear popping entertainment system and a fish tank if the cars gonna break down ... the only car that I've seen them fix up that deserved it was the 67 mustang

you should check out Overhaulin on TLC cause personally I think its way better ... they restore classics or fix up cars that deserve to be fixed up ... they always give the cars a bigger and badder engine so the cars have more 'go' to go along with the 'show' ... plus the shows has a lot more to it than just Xzibit showing up to your door saying he's there to pimp your ride ... they usually set up the owner to think they're car was stolen, towed away by accident or something like that, then surprise them a week later ... and the hostess, Courtney Hansen is pretty hot

Your right, I’ve only once seen them replace an engine but with most of the cars I’ve seen them do the engines and drive train remain untouched. The shows all about cosmetic looks and how many cool gadgets can we stuff in the guy’s old Pinto Station wagon. I always wonder where they get all the power to run the 5000 watt amps, 6 TV’s, computer, karaoke machine, and can’t forget that Lava Lamp! Most cars electrical systems would have a hard time providing the extra power needed to run everything without a big alternator upgrade. Adding this extra load to the cars old alternator will for sure cause it to fry out after a week.

They claimed on one show they put $30,000 worth of shit into the guys car. My thought was whats the point of doing this? with $30,000 usd why not just buy the guy a totally new "Reliable" car!

I mean who in there right mind puts $30,000 worth of shit into a shit-box? LOL!

The show is a joke. It's fun. I watched it once and laughed my ass off. It's called PIMP MY RIDE, not THE PROPER WAY TO RESTORE A FINE OLD AUTOMOBILE and good choices for doing so...

Even the dude that hosts the show is fun....

Loosen up guys and enjoy the stupidity of it..... It is not a serious car show.

I know what you mean...........but when you have done custom work on cars stuff like that bothers you.........I mean just last week i saw the episode with the CRX.

Now if you look the paint job was horrible you could still see the old white in the front inner fender.

Major fuck up when you are doing somthing like that and the motor is blown, you really should change the motor before you paint the car. I mean they did that then the whole engine compartment was white. They sprayed it a little black, but for gods sack take the motor out and paint the engine compartment while your painting the car 10 minutes of work.

You have to remember they're probably putting the car together pretty quick. I'm sure they have real jobs to get back to.

I'm more interested in what happens to the cars afterwards. Some of the people live in pretty slummy areas; I can see the car going missing within days. I can also see some of the people selling the cars to make a quick buck.

They must have some sort of contract that doesnt allow them to sell it......that they have to keep it for a period of time

I like both Pimp My Ride and Overhaulin'. What I'd love to see, for each show, is a season finale done in a "where are they now" style. I'd be interested to see how many of those cars have been stolen or stripped, especially the Pimp My Ride cars. They'd have to be huge theft targets.

I enjoy the show but it's just fluff. I've wondered about the insurance etc.. also.

- I've rarely seen them change the engine, re-inforce the frame, or do anything other than paint it and add electronics. It's fun to see what they do to the cars but I imagine they just fall apart after.

If the people on the show were smart they'd all get together and show their cars at car shows. (Like Monster Garage etc..) They could put the cars on tour and make some money. Or if they are all in L.A. (which I think they are) then they could just do it locally.

I'm not sure why people supe up their cars like that. I remember going through the "Auto Hebdo" in Montreal as a teen looking to buy a car and I'd always see these Mustangs and civic ads saying "Mint Condition - $30,000 invested selling for $6,000" I'll never understand that. Oh well... I was old at 16 and I guess I'm even older now at 30.

Actually, I heard (didn't see it) that there was one show where the car was beyond repair or "pimpin" and they just bought the guy a new car.
Anybody seen it?

I think Xzibit tries way too hard on that show!!!
He should just relax and tone it down a little and not try to be the wise-cracking black guy from the hood, A "Chris Tucker" he is not!!!!

there was a car commercial not too long ago that was a spoof of Pimp my Ride ... they took a girl's old car in to a shop then when they gave it back to her later, it was a brand new Civic or something

I saw the show when they bought the guy a new car. He was driving an old shit-box that apparently had a frame that was two frames welded together. They decided it was unsafe to drive and bought a new car which was then 'pimped'.

Remember, this is an MTV show and is all about image. Nothing in those shows is to be believed as "reality". Like the dating shows that have 'real' singles going on dates with cameras in tow. Most of those guys and gals are out of work actors looking for a bit of exposure. In a sense they are 'just folks' dating but it is all about the show.

Actually little has changed. If you remember 'The Dating Game' from the '60s there were often actors on that show. Clips show up (Tom Selleck in one) of people who make it later and have a career. I can imagine this is quite an embarrassment for them.

Yeah and I laughed my ass off the first time I saw it. One of the best commercials on TV in a long time!
It was a take-off on Pimp my Ride and they were certainly making fun of the show. I like how the girl kept saying “Oh my God, oh my God, I can’t even tell that this was my old car!

The american chopper show is funny. Its like they are making art instead of something that is engineered to perfection. Its all about style and paint jobs, not really a new engineering feat or something like that. Like how about a bike that is a hybrid, now that would be unique.
