Is Pinball Clemons the only man that can right what appears to be a sinking ship in Toronto?
According to a report in the Montreal Gazette, Clemons has been approached about returning to the sidelines for the Argonauts, replacing head coach Rich Stubler. The move could reportedly happen as soon as Monday if the Boatmen should lose the Labour Day Classic to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The report states that Stubler could be fired or could take over duties as the team's defensive coordinator. Offensive coordinator Steve Buratto's job is also reportedly in jeopardy.
Should the change occur, it would be the second time that Clemons has stepped in to attempt to save the Argonauts season. Clemons officially retired as a player to become the Argos' coach in 2000, replacing John Huard. After becoming the team's president in 2001, Clemons was forced to return to coaching during the 2002 season, replacing Gary Etcheverry. Clemons remained the Argonauts head coach through last season before moving up-stairs once again to become the Argonauts chief executive officer.
Toronto has struggled mightily this season under Stubler with a 3-5 record that includes a pair of drubbings at the hands of the rival Ticats.
There has also been a great deal of turmoil off the field as former starting quarterback Michael Bishop ripped the organization following his trade to the Saskatchewan Roughriders earlier in the week.
Toronto also released veteran defensive back Orlondo Steinhauer this past Monday.
