In a place far, far away
I collect my shopping bags and once a year drive to Halifax and throw them into the ocean.
That's what I do with my plastic straws.
I save up my water bottles and do that. If you first throw the plastic bottles into a burn barrel you can haul a lot more thus saving you some gas.

I always buy bags. They are only 5 cents. Also, the stores I shop at have been charging for bags for as long as I can remember and I have lived in ON for 20 years.

I wish the LCBO would give me plastic instead of paper bags. It is absolutely fucking stupid that they expect you to carry heavy bottles in a flimsy paper bag.

I don't mind paying for good quality bags that can be reused. That's why I switched from Metro to Longos.
You're right in that most stores have crappy plastic bags. I haven't tried the ones from Longos as there isn't one near me. Once a month I go to No Frills and buy 20-30 bags. They're good quality and don't leak. I use them for compost and cat litter. And at 5 cents each, they're cheaper than buying garbage bags.

Most people use plastic shopping bags for their garbage, so if they're using reusable bags to shop what do they use for garbage? I think they end up buying glad bags, which defeats the purpose. BTW plastic bags can go into the compost bin for the city, in Toronto anyway.
Exactly! ^^^

They call them single use bags, but here's the thing. If I carry my groceries home in a plastic bag, then use it as a garbage bag, it's no longer a single use bag. Now if they ban plastic shopping bags, I will have to buy a box of "single use" plastic garbage bags. That doesn't make sense to me.

And yes, even if you collect more plastic than you use, you can recycle them.

I collect my shopping bags and once a year drive to Halifax and throw them into the ocean.

These two ^^^ for the win! lol

I love those paper bags . I fill them with my shredded papers and put them in the blue bin . This way I'm not paying for blue plastic bags to put the shredded papers in . It also saves on the use of plastic .

If you have many or heavy bottles you can always use the cardboard boxes that they have available .

Back in 1975 when I was in grade 13 , I had a teacher tell us that someday we would be bringing our own bags to the store . The entire class laughed at him.

Some stores have good quality bags . I use those for the kitchen and bath room garbage bins . Many times I don't even take a bag even when it's offered for free .

I like the cloth bags the best . They seem to hold more and I wash them every once in a while . I wish stores would sell the cloth bags at check out .

Some stores like Giant Tiger will give you a 3 cent discount when you bring your won bag . I know it's nothing but at least it's something .

Home Depot used to charge for bags but not any more . Their bags are so weak that I don't ever use them . Lococos used to charge for bags but not any more . They were great bags but since now they are free the quality of the bags has gone down hill .

I don't mind paying for bags if I need to but they must be of good quality .

I don't buy 500ml bottles of water . I use my large containers and get water from a spring and use a refillable cup when I want to take water with me .

Ikea bags make gret multi-trippers for the supermarket and there are all sorts of reusables that pack into smaller than pocket-size for those impulse buys when you're out for a walk, or need a few things from the greengrocer. Since most products are sold in packages, I haven't had to accept a store's one-trip bag since before Rob Ford and his looney — and doomed — crusade to make them 'free'

A lot of plastic bags out there are easy to tear and usually have holes. That's definitely the case with Wal-Mart bags. That makes them almost useless for garbage bags and definitely not for the kitchen green bin since they leak. Funny enough, No Frills seems to have the best quality plastic bags out there.

I don't even bother lining any of my garbage bins with bags anymore. I just empty them straight into the grey or blue bins. I do have to rinse things before they go into the kitchen bins otherwise there will be a sticky mess at the bottom. I buy compo-stable bags for the kitchen green bin that work really well.

Yes, they will... when the parasitic human race eventually pushes the ecosystem to it's tipping point, and a human culling / near extinction takes place.

Costco has these clear biodegradable plastic bags and I always take a few to put my food waste in before I throw it in the grey bin. Don’t want those nasty maggots invading my bins. Also Costco sells these plastic bags a thousand for $20.

Yup. It's unlikely we'll ever go completely extinct, because our brains and hands allow us to 'mutate' and rapidly adapt to new conditions, and surmount new threats. But we're too 'stupid' to 'get it right' before we almost destroy the 'host' we depend on to survive at all.

Just like viruses.

No I am talking specifically about you. You would be the equivalent of the Aids virus
Sounds like you don’t like me? That’s a shame. I’ll pencil in some time to cry about it later. Right now, I’m busy enjoying my life.
