I agree 100 % with what you say.
Then again, I am Catholic and a good Jewish friend of mine, who passed away many years ago, agreed with me that I was a rebel Jew, by virtue of the fact that I am a Catholic. History suggests that Columbus was very pro Jewish, even if he wasn't a Jew. He was, at the very least, a rebel Jew in a way.
I wish that, as with many Jews, Muslims and Chrisians with whom I share friendship, we all realise that all three faiths have a common Abrahamic foundation. Too bad the fanatics in all three faiths don't want to see this.

It would seem the practical embodiment of this is to have Jerusalem as an international city for all faiths.

Even as it is, Jerusalem is an open city for all religions. Despite it being Israeli controlled, Muslims have full control over their own holy sites and the majority of the time forbid entry to non-Muslims. So while the Israelis allow all religions to practice their faith and access to their own holy sites, the Palestinian religious authorities are the ones refusing rights to others.
The most holy Jewish sites are:
1. Temple Mount (under Waqf - Palestinian Muslim control usually closed to non-Muslims leaving Jews to make due with praying at an old retaining wall outside the mount)
2. Cave of the Patriarchs (again under Waqf control though tourism is allowed)
I guess the Israelis are so big on denying rights that they allow the Palestinians to deny Jews access to the most sacred Jewish holy site.
