You see a few of them in every neighbourhood. Almost all are senior citizens. Their family don't want them inside the house so they park them on the porch 24/7 365 waiting for the inevitable. So sad.

Sometimes they're just the smoking members of the family. Other times they are the young adults of the family. I, myself, am a rarer breed. The garage sitter.

Some of them are smokers but there is this one elderly gentleman (not a smoker) who is parked in a chair on the porch in the early morn and then retrieved late at night. Doesn't even read a newspaper. Just sits there staring aimlessly into the distance. Sad.

I've got wireless internet out here, I'm surfing the net while drinking a few beers and keeping an eye out for my slutty neighbour.
It's a nice evening to be a Porch Person.

actually Rock, you're getting a little weird....more n usual.

A lot of old timers just don't have much to do due to poor mobility, lack of mental ability, some don't like tv, or radio.....Yes it is sad when someone's life is coming to an end and their body is so frail they really can't do much anymore.

I will be honest, there are times I just want to sit and veg for a while. My new place is right on a slow lazy river and I tell ya, my favourite spot will be sitting on the dock on a lawn chair at the end of the day just watching the water go by.........

If that is true, then it is all the fault of that 24/7 "porch person". (He is actually mobile and lucid, I have seen him move and have spoken to him.) It is just spooky to have someone who sits on his porch 24/7 who sees me in the morning when I leave the house and again when I return home at 3AM. Ever get the feeling that someone is "watching" you? I also have to acknowledge his presence every time I pass by his porch. Ever see that Seinfeld episode (you know the one)?

you got it Mr Cat.....probably play that song too.....

Ummm Terminator, you want I should do laps while I'm drowning worms? Or better yet, want me to run a marathon? How about build a deck, build a garage, finish a basement, etc etc etc you think someone should 'go' 24/7?

If you think like that you won't make 50.....

(and to let you in on a little secret, rest is often a LOT better for you than sleep.....)

Generally those old people are working as security at crack houses or meth labs. They are the alarm bell for the dealers/lab inside. When you see them outside - the lab is in operation.

Better sitting on the porch at your kids home, being a nuisance to them than being that poor old 99 year old in a secure old age home and getting raped in her own bed by some scum bag low life piece of sh*t who will do 6 months probation when they catch his ass. "Insert a big breath smiley"!

Relax.
I see people all the time on their porch.
Most are parents or mid-age just relaxing, drinking a beer, and enjoying warm weather on a weeknight.

I knew that old geezer was up to no good. Nobody sits on their porch 24/7 365.

Rock - here's an idea - why don't YOU take him to the park, for a beer, whatever... We will all be judged by how we deal with the elderly, one day that might be you sitting on the porch.

Yes, something to think about. No, no smilie this time.
And, Rock, you never know what you might learn from actually talking with that old guy. It just might be worth spending a few minutes to find out. If you do, I hope you'll let us know what happens.
