I just stayed a couple of nights in a downtown hotel, I arrived on Monday morning. A member of the maid staff saw me in the hallway and asked if I was here for the parade, when I said no she launched into a tirade about how it was taking an hour to clean each of the rooms of the folks down for the parade, that they had trashed the place.

I had this episode repeated to me twice my first day there, with one woman in an elevator damn near screaming that they were the worst guests in existence. Man, talk about anti-gay.

I've never been there for the event, is it really that rowdy?

Its probably more of an anti messy issue than an anti gay issue with the maids.
Can you imagine if there was an annual TERB week with hobbyists coming into town from world over culminating with a parade with Hobbyists and SP floats, I'd think we'd be even more messier and rowdier!!:p
I think you're on to something there...

Yes it IS that rowdy. I have not one iota thing wrong with someone's sexual preference but I had 2 living next door to me, and 2 one floor down and a couple of units over and believe me, during the pride weekend it was INSANE. I called the cops at least 5 times on the guys downstairs. I'm not usually a spoiled sport but when they cranked it back up to 11 at 3 am (and I face an alleyway so it echos) I had enough.

I can't say that homosexuals would be any worse than say, a bunch of hockey fans in town to celibrate the leafs winning the stanely cup, but yeah, they can get out of hand.

Its not anti-gay..its anti Bad Manners.
Same stuff happens in other parts of the city the week before Carribana.
I imagine it happens On the Danforth during "the Taste"

In the city, we do have to get along, but really people does so much noise HAVE to be part of the equation?

That's what stood out from their commentary - they were definitely equating the two. Quite vocally.

I usually attend Pride Day every year since the mid 90's, missed it this year. I always go down, and NO its not to check out the topless women, he he he. I go there to support the Pink Dollar.
I will not disclose what line of business Im in, but a great deal of my income came from the Pink Dollar. I started servicing gay customers (NO PUN intended) in the 80's and It paid off. I was the first to rejoice in wonderment of the pink dollar, and after me, many followed and prospered.Plus my cousin is gay, I would go down with him and his kids and march with the gay fathers. At first I would hold up a sign that said ''Im straight", but now I dont even care what people think. Im 100% hetero, and I dont have to prove anything to anyone. To be honest, there are so many straight people there now, nobody cares, its fun. Yes, its a bit loud, but its only once a year, who cares.
Down falls of the parade are the naked men....something they should remove, my cousin doesnt bring his kids anymore because of this.

Second- the anti Israel protesters who try and sneak in. Totally disgusting. If they try and sneak in this year, I will pull out any support, and boycott Pride day on that principle alone.
Hey, to me this is a day to celebrate the Pink dollar, not to support little jihadest. Sick sick sick.

Keep supporting the muslim jihaddast Pride day staff. Im outta here..........

Is it just me or is DDB's post rife with sexual inneuendos? and in addition, with all the colours and type sizes, that has to be THE gayest looking post EVER lol

Seriously… that thought does provoke some thoughts/ideas…

I am sure many here know how Pride Parade/Event started to begin with. If not pls allow let me to share.

It all started back in 1980’s something… after the raid of a gay health club/bathhouse. The name of it was Richmond Street Heath Club. The police were apparently somewhat a little overzealous lets say in carrying out the raid causing a lot of property damage etc. So the gay community was outraged and the first parade/protest evolved to bring to the forefront their call for justice etc for what happened. I believe there was only a couple hundred at that first rally… can’t remember what year. It grew from there and blossomed into what it is today.

It’s much more of a commercial event then a celebration of gay liberation today IMO. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Over the years more and more corporate and business people who may have ignored the pink $$ in the past are now embracing it. And rightly so IMO. Just think of how much more discretionary $$ a single gay person has whom do not have the expense of raising a family. Not to mention that a lot of gays are in high end income brackets. $$Millions$$!

Just the same as gays come from all walks of life, social backgrounds, and professions etc so do hobbyists and SWs. Also so does the ‘adult industry’ contribute major $$ to the economy. When I was in ad sales (selling exclusively in the adult industry) I sold over $700grand$ per year five years running. And I am (was) just one lowly print media ad sales guy … imagine how much was (is being ) spent in all other advertising mediums etc. Not to mention all the $$ being spent on cars, condos, tuitions, in bars/clubs, … the list goes on.

IMO it is about time we made this point loud and clear. While there are groups and organizations lobbying the government for changes to laws etc… the loudest cry they have is about why it’s necessary to change the laws because of SWs safety issues. Of course there is absolutely nothing wrong with that motivation for wanting changes. I think we need more weapons in our arsenal so to speak to have the community at large grow to accept and embrace adult industry community. We need to point out that not all SWs are street walking addicts who are embedded in the criminal world. In fact just the opposite most are not. Hobbyists and SWs alike come from all walks of life etc… and are making major contributions to the economy including taxes. In my last year in the biz I paid over $35grand$ in personal income tax. And again I am just one lowly person in an industry of thousands of people directly and/or indirectly involved.

I know it’s a bit of a fantasy but imagine if we could start up with just one rally with couple hundred participants… and grow into a major yearly event. To have the rest of the world embrace our community rather then the current state of affairs.

Just imagine.
