Are you a pedophile if all you do is think/fantasize about it?
Obviously not legally.

If it were so we would live in a world like that of the film Minority Report. It all boils down to free will as opposed to determinism.

Sort of, except that being gay is not criminal in most of the advance cultures.
Good point blackrock, but I think that my logic still stands. Actually I think the answer to my somewhat rhetorical question is NO to both. If the thought of sex with a child came into my head I would do my best to bury it, and then bury the shovel. I would not be a pedophile unless I acted on it. Same with gay thoughts. A thought and a deed are different things for me. Many studies from Kinsey on clearly indicate that a goodly percentage of men have fantasized about sex with a man.

Fortunately we Terb men have no such worries. This has been made abundantly clear from the masculine hoards when any mention of Bi or Gay comes up in posts, especially the tranny posts.:rolleyes: We are men, we slay dragons, chase women, wage wars, rescue damsels in distress and never think of diddling each other. Let no one think otherwise.:rolleyes:

I'm going to see a documentary at the Film Festival called Mea Maxima Culpa about this issue in the Catholic Church. Same guy who did that great documentary on Eliot Spitzer.

As for the old priest who made these stupid comments, he's also not of sound mind so I don't think we can crucify him but sometimes dementia is like being drunk where true, inner thoughts are voiced when otherwise they wouldn't if the person was lucid and tactful.

I think what bothers me is not one comment, but the over-all nature of the Catholic Church - and how much support they continue to receive.

This guy is SO far off base...

That I suspect he has, as suggested earlier, dementia or similar.

No othe explanation for the remarks.

He apologized. How nice. Too bad he didn't have a lobotomy to change how totally fucked up his thinking is. Oh and that of the National Catholic Register as well.

Why isn't this guy opening up a new church in Antartica?
Actually, I think one has to give credit to the journalist integrity of the National Catholic Register for publishing the interview in the first place, knowing that it would bring significant criticism.

It looks to me like the moron who made the statement is a little senile and clearly mixed up, but his statement reminds me very much of the unrealistic worldview of people like Aikens.

Here we go again... the flash bar on CP 24 tells of some priest raping a boy. And a teacher as well.

But no, the Catholic Church maintains it has no problem.

Please offer up the news release where the church said, 'it has no problem'. Preferable something in this millennium.

The second sentence is so clearly inaccurate, it almost makes me doubt the validity of the first.

If a boy was raped by a member of the clergy, that is terrible. The rapist needs to be punished. Same goes for a teacher.

Do you think the school system has admitted it has a problem in the same way the church has?

There is a very good explanation for the comments, he is a pedophile. Nobody could possibly envision a child sexually flirting with anyone let alone a priest. He basically told people that he considers children fully functioning sexual partners capable of seeking out active sex partners. He can apologize for offending people but this sick fuck is a walking time bomb near children.

Two problems lead to this mentality. First these are grown men who are prohibited from any normal sexual relationship, so they have no frame of reference as to what "seduction" actually is. They believe to have been "called by god" to the clergy, therefore if they get turned on they must be the victim Second is that this is the same mentality that rapists (and mayoral nieces) have regarding the victims of rape. Ie they " asked for it" or "wanted it" or brought it on themselves. These are both medieval ideas that have no place in modern society.

Wow! What mentality are you talking about? Rapist? Pedophile? Something tells me it's far more complicated or diverse than just the ones you list. As I said, Nikki where are you?

This guy has a degree in psychology, he should know better. There really is no excuse for his remarks.
