there is an on-line company called 123cartridges.ca that sells non-OEM, or knock-offs.

They were less than half the price that Brother wanted and they are new cartridges.

I buy my cartrtidges for my Epson CX8400 from eBay, usually from a supplier in BC. They work well, and are a fraction of the cost of paying regular retail for Epson branded cartridges. I have been doing this for years, with a previous Epson printer as well, and I cannot recommend it enough. It has saved me bucketloads of money over the years, and allowed me to print in full colour for my business needs without worrying about the high cost of doing so.

My last purchase was for 29 cartridges. Total price, including shipping was $47.80 CAD. I won't even try to calculate the cost of buying these Epson branded from BestBuy or Staples! It would probably make you puke! lol

i was in the inkjet printer business and it depends on what you're printing and if you want your images to last. if you're printing the family photos or for any commercial use, stick to the oem inks.

it's easy to make ink (colored liquid) but very hard to make good quality, durable inks. i've been in the r&d facilities for two of the world's top inkjet printer mfgs and have seen firsthand the significant investment they make into their ink technology. i believe their claims of 100+ years durability, etc...

with 3rd party inks you can save $$$ but if you have issues they'll likely be in longevity, colour control or clogging. test them out first before printing anything critical.

I used

http://www.metawatch.ca/c169182.2.html

and they are about 1/5th the price of epson and never had ANY problems with the ink, clogging, or durability.

Extremely fast and cheap shipping. I ordered some Friday afternoon around 2 and they were at my door before 9 am monday.......

as for the original question about getting them refilled...

don't do it if you have any new generation ink jet that can print photos... it'll mess up your jets and you'll need to replace your atomizer. and besides, the ink is of low quality... ie, will run if you get it wet, etc..
