Anyone have problem crossing over the Alexandria bay bridge into Canada? I told them the truth of why I want to enter Canada. I said I wanted to spent a few day on vacation at a prebook 4 star hotel. They proceed to search my car and spend most alot of time going though my laptop. I have never have a crimmal record my whole life. 3 hour of degradement, belittlement, and harrassment, they accuse me of going there for "prositution". I thought escort service was very legal and accepted there. I never deny this was a small part of my vacation. I ask the guard if I was ban from Canada? He would not give me an answer. I try another bridge the following day and was told the guard wrote some nasty note on my record. I was again deny without being given a reason. This time the process was much more pleasant and took only 45 minutes. Guys, if I did nothing wrong, and I have no record of any kind, why the deny entrance? Can anyone advise me an attornery in this field? I visited Canada 100s of time without problem and now I can't get in because of the opinion of one bridge crossing? I love visiting Canada, HELP me guys.

I am shocked to hear that Americans are coming over here to have sex with our women! That border guard should get a commendation! :))

Thank your government for the extra shit at the border, unfortunately.
It was the Canadian border guard who denied/ harassed him, not the US.

I believe the point Maurice93 was trying to raise was as a result of the American Hightened security measures and ridiculous requirements to enter the States, that Canadian Border Guards are being instructed to be equaly annoying ...errr make that diligent and thorough.

Who told them you were coming here to do escorts?? IF you did so then you re dumber than you are letting on.......
If you didnt tell them?? then who did??

What a ding bat!!

All you have to tell them is that you re coming to do some gambling and they always let you in faster.

Very similar thing with me in Victoria airport. Found links to terb on my laptop which they took from me for over an hour and poured over. I just said visiting friends, but a name similar to mine from some bad guy in Florida came up which started the secondary screening.

I had to teach them the Canadian Criminal code that prostitution was legal - all they think about is street hookers.

The got more and more friendly as I discussed it and taught them their laws. One younger officer particularly interested. Was amazed gals participate in discussions etc on the web, all he could relate to was drugged out street hookers.

My in depth story is at http://sexworkvictoria.com/Interrogated.html

What this poor guy can do about his situation I have no idea. May need friendly legal help since the border guy was so upset about prostitution it seems he put what a terrible guy he is in the computer since he thinks prostitution is an evil crime.

As my expereince in Victoria shows just like most Canadians even the border agents don't know the Canadian Criminal Code and just assume "prostitution" is illegal when of course it never has been just like private consenting adult prostitution is legal in most of the world except the U.S.

It's never a good idea to admit to coming to some country for sex, no matter how liberal they are. In Canada, you can't say prostitution is legal, just tolerated to some extent. You should've just told them you're here to see the sights, visit the amusement parks, etc.

Geesh.

Prostitution is 100% legal in Canada. Always has been.

Public solicitation (in a public place like a street), bawdy houses and living off the avails are not legal).

Solicitation on the Internet, phone, newspaper ads and in private is 100% legal

Prostitution is legal it is not "Tolerated" because its legal so it doesn't have to be "tolerated"!

But since even immigration officers don't know their own country's laws you should avoid the discussion if possible but if they find it on your computer educate them that it is 100% legal as I did in Victoria.

Bawdy houses are usually tolerated unless complaints or other crimes going on and Agencies sell time not sex so usually no avails issue.

Thanks for your input guys

I am still looking for an attornery who specialize in border crossing. I perfer someone in the local area who can talk to the border crossing in person. I did some more research. The border guard are public jobs that pays marginally. They have been know to get a kick out of harassing people. They can detain you up to 8 hours for any reason. They can tear up your car or rough you up if they want to. They basicly, have almost unlimited rights. They have been known to seize your laptop or car if they see fit. Attornery can talk to them and educated them; he can reason with they and hope they can change their ways. I still can not believe they went though all my email for 1 year. Also, no I would not said I am seeing an escort in the lobby fill with kids and family. These guards have no common decenty of any kind. Can anyone refer me to a free sex tolerant attornery who can help me? I have not broken any laws and never have.

Move on!

Mr. Parker, move on! Yank border people are much nastier than ours. If you don't like crossing borders, stay home.

Both you and Dave in Phoenix belong to a breed to Yanks who feel they need to lecture other countries about how to do things.

Damondean

Our $US are a major factor driving your good economy.

We don't lecture how to do anything, we just expect the border agents to know their own countries laws and not accuse us of breaking them when they are clueless about Canadian Laws - your border immigration folks regarding prostitution.

We follow your laws and respect them but are upset with the ignorance of Canadian laws by Canadians, especially border/immigration officers.

First of all, it is not a right of US or any other country's citizen to be allowed in Canada. Get over that right a way. Canadian Border Guards can refuse you entry for no reason. It is at their discretion.

I cannot believe they would look at your notebook or Dave's notebook. They are not trained forensic IT people.

Canadian Border Guards have been told over the last year to deny entrance to any foreigner with any sort of record - including charged but not found quilty. Sorts of things they are looking for include DUI/DWI/etc. I know in the US, these are not considered serious but Canadian authorities do and they will not let you in.

Give it up. You've got something on your record that raised a flag. Like it has been said before, this is a direct result of your government telling the world that we were too lax. Well, time to suck it up.

Thanks Dave. I doubt whether the amount of $$$ you drop at strip clubs would put much of a dent into our GNP.

But then you are the expert on everything so maybe I am wrong. After all, according to you, you taught the border agents about TERB so I guess we owe you, sir. :))

In Niagara Falls, business is slow at the strip clubs and hurting the income of the dancers. I have discussed with many and the big reason is the decline in U.S. tourism which is also hurting the ecocnomy per your newspaper reports.

We no longer have the dollar advantage, no longer get a refund of the GST tax on hotels and gas prices are higher.

Both myself and from what Mr Parker has said, we have never been arrested for anything but come to Canada to enjoy the freedoms you have that we lack in the U.S. And collectively we help your economy and provide jobs with our spend funds, not just as individuals.

Regarding terb, they found the link on my laptop and asked me about it. I was honest and told them about it. In the end they became very friendly and were amazed that gals actually participate since all they related to was drugged out street hookers.

Yes I am guilty of standing up and fighting for the profession of consenting adult sexwork. Even when it is border officials ignorant that its legal and not just about street hookers. Guilty as charged in trying to help educate the public to what I think is a valuable profession to a culture which should be respected as any other profession.

At any Canada/US border crossing, going either way, you will notice that most travellers proceed through pretty quickly, without hassle. Every now and then you get stopped and searched, which in the grand scheme of things, is a minor inconvenince, but a memorable one that colours your view of the whole process.

My laptop was seized and searched for apparently no reason; they looked at every photo I had, including clipart, to see if I was importing any child porn. The woman doing the search told me that they had recently caught several individuals this way. The next several crossings, I was stopped and questionned, obviously because I had been "flagged", because the Customs Officers seemed at a loss to know why I had been pulled aside. Eventually, things went back to normal, and now I cross unmolested.

When you cross the border, you have no rights. they can search whatever they want, for no good reason. If they find something "suspicious", they will search harder. Indignation and anger are normal responses on our part, and they are trained to ignore that, or worse, push more of your buttons. We all tend to talk alot when things get hot like that; they listen carefully.

Don't have anything for them to find when you cross, or when you send your stuff across. "Visiting friends" or attending a church group function are nice, legitimate reasons for a single guy to visit another country; just about anything else might be a little suspicious, especially on a slow day.

So, expect to be stopped, expect to be searched, and prepare yourself accordingly. Most of the time, they'll just stamp your passport and tell you to have a nice day.

I'm curious - was your laptop "password protected"? And if so do you have to give it (the password) to them? What if you refused would they confiscate it?

I doubt they would confiscate it, but they would likely just turn you away.
